Some of this is definitely influenced by the competition we've played, but the defense looked pretty damn good against Milwaukee and not even half-bad against Denver and Portland.
Let's hope KAT and the coaches are taking notice. He should be embarrassed.
Im adding to this from the game forum what is a terrible look for Kat.
Jeff Teague has a defensive rating according to cleaning the glass of 113.4 what is not good (22nd percentile) but in lineups without Kat what is about 40% of his possessions his defensive rating jumps to 107.2. What is above average (67th percentile). It is pathetic when Teague and Kat are on the court it's 118.2 what is pathetic (4th percentile).
People say Cov is our best defender, this year Cov has a defensive rating of 109.2 what is league average (52nd percentile) but if you take Kat off the court he is amazing and one of if not the best defender in the NBA. He has a defensive rating of 99.4 what is in the 98th percentile. But when Kat is on the court with Cov. Cov defensive rating is pathetic of 117.6 (5th percentile). Now if have lineups of Cov and Teague (who is considered the worst defender) it goes to `112.7 what is not good either but it is 25th percentile but in lineups of Teague and Cov without Kat it shoots up to 103.2 what is amazing at 91st percentile.
Now with Wiggins, Wiggins has a defensive rating of 110.4 what is the 41st percentile. In lineups without Kat it moves to 107.9 what is the 61st percentile. With Kat it moves to 113.6 what is the 20th percentile. In lineups with Wiggins and Teague without Kat, Wiggins has a defensive rating of 109.0 what is league average 53rd percentile.
Kat only has an above average defensive rating in 2 man combos with 1 other player and that is Layman what is league average.
Its absolutely embarrassing how shitty the Wolves are on defense in every combo with Kat on the court. I mean I am even putting Teague in and out of lineups and it gets better with Kat off the court and gets significantly worse when Kat is on the court.
It's a really bad look for KAT that the wolves are #1 in the NBA in defense when Kat dosen't play and perceived bad defenders in Teague and Wiggins have been above average with Kat off the court and pathetic with him on it.
*People have brought up playing 2 bigs, the reason I didn't put lineups with 2 bigs is the possessions the wolves have played this year with 2 bigs with Kat are super small. But in that super small sample size they have been run off the court defensively in 2 big combos including Kat (Kat/Dieng, Kat/Bell, Kat/Vonleh) but I don't believe the amount of possessions are close enough to being a large enough sample size to make a conclusion from it.
Good stuff Kek. I have previously run D-ratings with KAT/Gibson and KAT/Dieng from the past few years and it was not horrible, but not great. He cleary does better when paired with another legit big.
One other thing to keep in mind is that our competition has been a bit dicey in this stretch with KAT out. I know we've played a couple of good offensive teams and held our own (Milwaukee, Denver), but we have played against a few really weak/injury-riddled teams as well. That has to be factored in.
But still....even if we were playing a more balanced schedule, may be we'd be #5 or 6 defensively in that stretch vs. #1. Either way, it's not a good look for KAT as you say.

Yeah our competition hasnt been great, but we are also one of those bad teams.

Not sure I'd do either trade, especially the Drummond one. I think if we were to trade KAT the goal would have to be to get a young-ish perimeter scorer, like Devin Booker + other assets. The reality is that its much easier to find a solid defensive big than a top flight PG or Wing. Heck, Vonleh and Dieng are already on the roster and have proven to be an upgrade defensively over KAT. The problem is replacing KAT's shooting and scoring.

WCS hasn't been the defender people thought he'd be.
