Re: Share Your Trade Ideas
Friday's game was indicative of where Thibs is at with minutes distribution in competitive games (rather than blowouts). In competitive (close) games, Thibs is going with a 9-player rotation in which Crawford and Belly each getting 12-18 minutes off the bench. In Friday's game, Crawford had 17 minutes and Belly had 11. The point is that there aren't enough minutes for an additional significant needle-moving wing on the team this season unless you assume the new wing would displace Crawford's or Belly's minutes. I don't see that happening.
Further, a player of Bazemore's caliber with his salary (which is significantly higher than Gorgui's) doesn't make sense. I you game him all of Crawford's minutes, Crawford would be really unhappy and Bazemore would still be getting too few minutes to justify his salary. Bazemore would also probably be unhappy with his minutes. And as frustrated as I can get sometimes with Crawford jacking up shots, he's been a huge plus for this team both as a player and mentor.
The reason I'd like to have a wing of Bazemore's caliber is as protection against injury to Wiggins or Butler. Obviously, there's no remedy for a season-ending injury to either one, especially Butler. But a 2-3 week injury like the one to James Harden is the thing I'm worried about because it could hurt our seeding significantly and I think we'd be in trouble relying on Crawford, Belly and Bazz to fill in during that time. Having a Bazemore to fill in for Wiggins or even Butler for 2-3 weeks would be a huge help in keeping us from sliding too much in the standings.

Although I wouldn't do Cam's deal based on my more conservative view, I can't think of a better one to upgrade our bench. Here are the two things I like about Cam's proposed trade compared to other trade ideas involving Gorgui that I've seen:
1. It would add what we need the most -- a wing who could keep this team afloat if Wiggins or even Butler went down for several weeks while also giving us another needle-moving wing option off the bench.
2. Unlike other possible deals involving Gorgui, getting Dedmon in Cam's deal would avoid making us too thin with bigs off the bench even though I think it would be a drop off from Gorgui.
I also think it's realistic from Atlanta's point of view. Atlanta's in full rebuild mode, which means they have to be focused on accumulated draft picks and clearing cap space. Cam's proposed deal would do both for the Hawks. It would give them about $5-6 million extra cap space next season while also giving them another first round pick. It would also give them a nice big in Gorgui locked in what I still consider to be a very reasonable contract.

I'm not saying this would happen because Tibs is so traditional with his rotations but a series against the warriors or Rockets would be a lot more interesting if we would roll out a small ball lineup with Teague/Tyus, Wig, Bazemore, Butler and Kat. Kat can guard Draymon and Butler can guard whoever you want, as the 4 in that lineup would be Iggy, where Wig or Bazemore could guard him. In a series against those two teams Gorgui is really a non factor in my opinion

I'm in favor of keeping gorgui this year.. don't know much about this Bazemore fella. If we could drop Cole and Bazz on someone for a SF, that's the only trade I would do. Corey Brewer?

+1
Of course even as a Bazz fan if you said we traded him for a half eaten and now stale bag of pretzels I would probably say it was a good trade.

Trash for trash deals aren't improving this team.
I think the players actually like Muhammad's personality. He just sucks at the NBA level.

Agreed. I only suggested one of those trash because I honestly felt bad for not proposing something in your trade thread. :)
I agree with you as well I think if Bazz was a problem on this team he wouldn't be here. Of course despite not playing he is still fighting for his career. He has every incentive to keep working although I think like you said the guy works hard and is a good dude it's just not working out right now and might not.
Cam is there a guy or guys you would like to see signed to a 2-way deal which obviously doesn't preclude any other move.

Brooklyn Nets Receive: C Cole Aldrich, PF Nemanja Bjelica, 2018 lottery-protected first-round pick (via Oklahoma City Thunder)
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: SF/PF DeMarre Carroll, SG/SF Joe Harris
That trade idea comes from Bleacher Report's Dan Favale. I still prefer a deal for Kent Bazemore, but I'd be all about that trade too. I've name-dropped DeMarre Carroll here numerous times and his fit would be almost as seamless. He'd take the lion's share of both backup forward minutes.
Joe Harris is also a nice get in this trade. 10 PPG in just under 25 MPG isn't tremendous, but his TS% of .603 is damn good any way you slice it. Gives us another much-needed and more efficient [than Jamal Crawford] perimeter shooter.
It also doesn't rock the boat too much. The Gorgui Dieng crowd can take a breath. He lives another day.
Projected Rotation:
PG: Teague / Jones
SG: Butler / Harris
SF: Wiggins / Carroll
PF: Gibson / Carroll
C: Towns / Dieng
