Agreed. But I guess that's why it would make sense to deal Tyus as it's that potential which could equate to some value back. For us to have a good season, the 3rd PG just needs to look good in a suit. What a job! I keep watching for one of those jobs to open up, but I never see them posted on Linkedin.

That's exactly the guy you keep and let him continue to develop. You don't play all 15 guys so the last few spots are made for development guys who are cheap. That's why it's dumb to give up those guys for nothing or for cheap. If you are playing guys 13-15 your season is over anyway because of injuries. Good teams always make room for 1 or 2 development guys on the end of the bench.

Can't argue with that. But you also have to consider what Thibbs thinks of Tyus long term. We don't know. Obviously if he likes the kid he would keep him. But the fact that he drafted another PG could indicate that he's not considering Tyus as a long term option guy. IDK. It would be unusual to keep two young PGs. We're all just speculating based on the info out there.

I don't think anyone in the league views Tyus as a starter long-term. He was a late 1st round pick and he's small. Dunn has plenty of tools to not only be a starter, but potentially be an all-star. I think drafting Dunn says more about his confidence in Ricky than Tyus. He drafted Dunn to push Ricky, not replace Tyus in my opinion.

Ok so the idea is we trade Tyus for a draft pick that's going no to be another "long shot" we can have pages of threads over how much we like or dislike them and that is likely to be 3rd place on the depth chart? Why can't we just keep doing that with Tyus? I'm looking past this season. There are no guarantees.

As for winning this year and wing depth and a better backup PG...yes if one of those other vet options is better than Tyus then pick them up and dump Lucas? As for depth at the wing position right now the Wolves have basically fluid roster spots. They have an open spot, Payne's spot and they can apply for an injury exception. Basically it's likely whoever occupies those spots will be guys you can cut to sign another player if needed. Also if this teams needs wing depth a guy that MIGHT actually have been of use was that guy mentioned in an earlier post GR3. He may still be a guy that becomes a solid bench guy and seems to be on the right track towards that in Indiana. It will be interesting in a year or 2 when he is still hasn't turned 25 yet to look back and see how many guys you would rather have from that year's Wolves roster over him. I'd certainly rather have him than Adrian Payne. Lol regardless if you want depth at any spot the Wolves will have the flexibility to call up anyone that's available and bring them in if they want to. Keeping Tyus isn't holding them back.

Oh and saying they don't value Tyus because the drafted Dunn doesn't make sense. Dunn wasn't even supposed to be there he was one of their highest rated players. That's no knock on Tyus.

To be fair, wouldn't the point of trading Jones be that the team could land a guy otherwise unavailable?

Yes thanks for bringing that up. Basically the talk so far seems to be just trading him for a draft pick.

I don't dig the draft pick angle either.

The core is there. Hopefully. Now, it's to flesh out the rest of the rotation to make it a better team. And that requires a mix of that youth and some guys who've been around the league and know what they're doing.

Does that player get here via a Jones trade? Dunno. Will Jones be part of a larger trade? I wouldn't be surprised.

I was just doing a bit of reading about Lucas and I found this interesting article about an NBPA coaching camp for current and former players who were working with 100 kids. Its a pretty good read although fairly lengthy. Lucas has been there 4 years. Maybe that's part of what Thibs and Layden see as his value. He actually has some legit training to be a coach on the floor etc. They might be looking at hims as a future coach as well. Calvin Booth was one of the first participants 12 years ago and was there to scout.

An interesting note: The one season when Lucas played meaningful minutes for Chicago he was an above average PG (PER 16.3) and shot nearly .400 on his 3s...
