Re: Creative Trade Thread
I agree with Cam in this argument, I hate having players like Drummond who can't make a free throw to save their lives. I can't see a guy who is in our core being a guy who makes less than 40% of his FT attempts

Did it hold back Shaq or Dwight from being great players? If he draws the fouls he gets the other team in foul trouble and gets us in the bonus quicker so they can't play physical at the end of quarters because it means free throws for every foul.

Shaq and Dwight are in a different league talent wise than Drummond. Also Pek does the same this right now

Shaq is, Dwight isn't.

I think Dwight is a lot better than Drummond. Drummond scores mostly on put backs while at least Dwight can drop step on people.

Dwight this year - 16/11/1.5/1.4/.7 on 11 shots and 52% FT, 32 MPG.
Drummond - 13/13/.6/1.7/.9 on 11 shots and 40% FT, 30 MPG.
Dwight is 29 and Drummond is 21. I don't think a few post moves makes Dwight all that much better. Drummond also only takes 4.4 FT's a game so it's not like he's going 4/10 every night.

Right now they might be in the same ball park with dwight battling injuries for the 3 years. Dwight is the best Center in the last 10 years. I like Drummond but not at the price of a top two pick in this year's draft.

Re: Creative Trade Thread
I guess where I would fall is by asking myself a couple key questions. First, does Drummond improve our team dramatically? Even with the FT issues, I would say yes. Look, this seems to be very similar to the argument many of us have about Rubio.....despite the horrible shooting, is he a net positive for the Wolves? I am beginning to come around on the side that he certainly has a large positive impact on this team. He is still not an elite player, but he is certainly impactful on the teams results. Drummond is very similar in that he can impact the game a tremendous amount despite a couple flaws in his game. I remember that the biggest concern about him when he came out of college was whether he had the mental makeup (aggressiveness) to succeed. He was seen as a very passive player in college, and many talked about his "motor". Well, he has passed all the tests, and has shown he is a well above average NBA player. All of this at 21. Given his age, and his success to date, I fully expect that he continues to get better as well.
Now, I also agree with Cam that Okafor and Towns have oodles of upside....but NOTHING is guaranteed at this point. I would bet you that both guys don't end up as top 2-3 at their respective positions. Just playing the odds. How do you pick the right one? If I were to ask how many current centers you would take over Drummond (considering age, contract, injury history, etc.....meaning real life), what would your answer be? Me...the answer is MAYBE 4 (Howard, Horford, M. Gasol, Cousins), and even with those guys it is a toss-up depending on what you want from center. That means Drummond is certainly a top 5 center IN THE NBA currently. That means he is an 8/10 if I were to rate him. If he was a 6, then I would CERTAINLY take the chance as the risk isn't that big. But man, choosing to take a flier on a guy that at best is a 9/10 seems very risky, with very little upside. But the potential downside.....could be huge.

I agree as well....but wait a second here. So Drummond can't improve his FT% at 21, but Rubio is going to become both a better shooter and scorer at the age of 24 with like 8 professional seasons under his belt? Just trying to get some perspective here.

I truly get that particular argument. I do, really, but there's one major difference in situations and players.
Rubio seems to care about improving. There's effort being put forth. How much effort is Drummond putting forth? Shooting under 40% at the line tells me not very much effort. Zero progress at the line to date. Actually, and I'm not looking at the numbers, but I think he regressed this year in that area! So much for a strong work ethic. I've never seen someone that bad at the line actually get worse by putting a lot of time into it.
