All this debate is probably for not because I can't see Prince as the starting SF and LaVine as the backup PG come next Wednesday. I believe Mitchell even said something about focusing on LaVine at SG this year and how his time spent at PG last year helps him. Why say something like that only to continue to play LaVine out of position? This comes down to who's a bigger idiot: Zgoda or Mitchell, and as much as I'm not a Sam fan, you'd be a fool to take Zgoda's word seriously.
Ya, but Sam really can't declare Lavine the starting 2 and then choose between Martin or him to get stuck playing the 10 or so leftover minutes from the SG rotation. He dug himself a hole when he said this was a development year. You can't say that and then cut Lavine's minutes to around 10 a game and Martin certainly isn't sticking around for 10 MPG's either. There was already a fight for playing time at the 2 and he just added a 3rd player to that mix and gave that player first dibs. Now we have 5 guys fighting for 96 minutes on the wings. That's less than 20 for all or someone gets left out and the only one who makes sense is now our starting SF, so Lavine to PG is Sam's release valve for those minutes. Lavine is now the team martyr to make Wiggins' life easier at the 2.
I am pretty sure Zgoda watched practice and reported what the two lineups were on the floor. It doesn't sound like he consulted Sam on it, but even if he did, I am sure nothing is written in stone (or pen).
I am not really worried about starting lineups, but more about who gets minutes on a nightly basis. That should be decided by who is performing well.

Jim Peterson quoted Sam telling the young guys on the team that KG's role was to set things up for them. He didn't mean passing the ball. He meant setting the tone in his limited minutes. My sense is that this is Sam's new thing, i.e., Play a couple of the old vets early to "set the tone" for the young guys. In other words, I think Jerry's report is accurate. Prince will be starting at SF in the opener and thereafter for a while if not the entire season. Does it make sense? Not to me. But it must make sense to Sam.

Pundits are going to look at this roster and start questioning why we are so bad. Even the most opDougistic of fans are going to start pointing fingers at the coaching staff. It's going to get so bad that Glen won't have a choice and will bring in a new coach and crew to rescue the shit.
A guy can dream can't he?
Thought you could slip that one by, eh? Almost got away with it. Almost.
I do not understand why he would start Prince. However i would like to wait for actual rotation and player playtimes. I mean it might be helpful for a young player to not be given starting position, but to fight for it.
Watching the Wizard and Heat last night and I cam away thinking our team is really bad and has no depth. We have some nice young players, but outside of Rubio we don't have any players that we can lean on. Looking at both of those teams they have benches that can give you minutes and it has been said before we have a roster of full of players either before there time or after it. I think after this season you have to make a decision on what guys you build with and who you don't. Sooner you make that decision the better because some of these young guys value will expire like a gallon of milk.
