15.3 PPG
55% FG
9.6 RPG
2.2 BPG

I think I pegged his NBA numbers at 15/12/2.5-3. It's solid. I just don't think it's special. We might only need solid depending on Lavine's development.

Who does Towns compare to defensively? Is he going to be a DPOY candidate? A first all defensive team guy?

More fun with numbers. Don't take these numbers seriously, it was just my curiosity that made me look them up. It's an incredibly small sample size where one great game or one bad game can really skew numbers. Towns vs Okafor against the same opponents:

Opponents: Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Louisville, North Carolina

Towns
13.3 PPG
61% FG
6.3 RPG
.8 BPG
4 Games

Okafor
17.1
68% FG
8.5 RPG
1 BPG
8 Games

I have watched him a lot because I'm a Big 10 fan, bleed, and I'm honestly stumped projecting Frank, I could make a case for him to be very good, and a case for him to be nothing more than average. Did his stats improve so much because he got better, or because he was an upperclassman playing against teenagers? I think he can be an effective offensive PF in the NBA, but I have a difficult time seeing him being successful defending either NBA centers or PFs. He's neither long nor athletic, but he is a bona fide 3-point shooter. He's a mystery to me and I suspect to others also. I guess that's why the NCAA POY is projected to go late lottery at best.

Is Towns a Josh Smith who learned how to not settle for 3s?

In the Wisconsin game I remember Nigal Hayes scoring most of his points (especially a couple 3's) when WCS guarded him. I remember specifically when Towns was on him in the 2nd half I think he did get one bucket but Hayes seemed to have no interest in testing Towns on the perimeter or in the post. Hayes is not an easy cover since he is a stretch 4 that can put the ball on the floor.

Very different players. Towns is a very efficient scorer who is a terrific free throw shooter. Josh Smith is just the opposite. As far as 3s go, Flip will probably discourage it at the outset so his focus is in the paint. But that could change down the road. Towns actually shot a lot of 3s in high school and we all have seen him beat Wiggins in the 3pt contest where he shows a quick release.

Abe, sorry couldn't find the links. I'm at work so I have limited time to look. I was researching Russell and read several profiles on him. I think one writeup discussed how Russell was ball dominant and maybe wouldn't be a good fit for a particular team. Also, some writeups knocked him for his effort on defense. But I will say, after going through more write-ups on him is that I don't have any evidence that he is a potential malcontent like I would say about Dion Waiters so perhaps my comparison to Waiters wasn't a good one.

Very few players are... that's why I mentioned something.
