That being said, if we are talking about a 2nd rounder....then he would certainly be in the mix for me. But he absolutely better nail his interviews.....which I highly doubt.

I think the 42% FT rate is the biggest red flag for Upshaw, but not a disqualifier. I see his personal issues as completely different from guys like Whiteside and Cousins. From everything I hear, he is a good teammate and a good guy...he just likes the reefer a little too much, and that's not going to work in any college program. I don't have a huge problem with that. Again, I don't think there's much chance of his dropping to the second round, but if he does, Flip shouldn't hesitate to draft a defensive force like him.

Well...

@thedailywolf: Flip: "I guarantee you were probably not keeping both second-round picks"

At first this just pisses me off but since Flip is saying it so openly maybe he already has teams interested in one of those picks for a future pick. I hope it's the later. I can't imagine there won't be a euro guy we could pick with pine of those that's a worthwhile prospect but I'll reserve my ripping of these picks till I actually see what we do with them. Getting the Kings 2nd rounder was one of the things I though was actually somewhat worthwhile in all those trades during the season.

Also saying a super duper shot blocking tall big you are picking in the 2nd round can't shoot FTs as a big deal seems kinda strange. If he turns into the next deandre jordan but worse FT shooter you would be upset we took him? No he is a bust or boom pick in the 2nd round. At those spots if you can get a guy that does one thing (positive) that's elite or at least well above average it's a pretty good pick.

@PhilErvin: "Flip says team will most likely keep both 2nd-round draft picks, perhaps to snag a 3-pt shooter."

"He said later they'll "look at all possibilities" in response to a question about packaging the two 2nds."

Conflicting reports, but it's all situation depending on who's available anyway. I will be upset if Flip doesn't use both seconds, though. I'm extremely tired of throwing away assets.

Cash money. That is what our second round picks will result in if we don't trade back into the first round to get someone. He said he liked GR3 as a first round talent and look how long that lasted. I don't think he wants more than 1 rookie on next year's team given how many young guys we already have that still need to prove themselves.

I don't want three rookies on the roster next year, but I do want Flip to use each pick to do something that helps the future of our basketball team. Whether that's drafting three rookies for next year, drafting two rookies and a Euro stash, drafting one guy for next year and two Euro stash players, or using both 2nds to trade up for someone. Make use of each asset. Selling them for cash is what losing teams do. Winning teams utilize every asset possible.

Trading one 2nd for a future 2nd round pick would work for me as well. These seem to be high enough that would be a real possibilty. Another 10 or so spots lower maybe not so much.

Honestly I would love to trade the 2nds and Martin for a pick in the top 18.

Well, this team has never shied away from doing what losing teams do - nepotism, tanking, poor use of assets, etc., etc. It all contributes to what has become a disastrous decade of basketball. We are reliant on hopefully hitting on a few of these young guys because the organizational model is so broken that you can't expect them to churn out good decisions in a systemic fashion. It's more like luck of the draw....

Monster, I think you misread Hicks and my posts. Neither of us said we would be upset if we took him...hicks said he should be in the mix if he interviews well, and I said we need to take him if he's there (but I don't think he will be). We both pointed out the 42% FT rate as a bad factor (I don't think anyone can make a case for 42% being good), but both of us said he's a guy Flip should consider with a 2nd round pick.

I think my comment which was a little over the top somewhat on purpose was based on someone said 42% FT was their biggest red flag for them on this guy. I thought that was weird since the guy got kicked off a college team. Obviously bad FT shooting is a legit negative I won't argue that.

Part of my point is that it's a small worry for me if the guy can do what he is projected to do by people that like him play defense and rebound. Most guys that can only do stuff like that are poor FT shooters so him being maybe even worse than say Turiaf at that doesn't really bother me too much. I think we would be happy to have to be worried about his bad FT shooting because he is actually playing minutes. :)
