Obviously there is a group on this board who are determined not to get their hopes up until they actually see the Wolves start winning consistently (i.e. heading for the playoffs). And that's fine.

But this is a hell of a move! I don't know if Davis will even see the floor. But Rosas added veteran depth to the front court that we have clearly needed. And apparently, it's not just on court contributions that Ed Davis provides, but his leadership and mentor skills are being lauded by many players and coaches.

And not only did Rosas check the veteran front court checkbox, he moved the two guaranteed contracts that clearly had no future in the Wolves plans. Giving up a 2nd round pick to accomplish all that is a 2nd round pick well spent.

I was happy before knowing the roster imbalance would be addressed in time. I am officially tickled pink with how it has turned out.

[Edit: and yes, this creates the roster spot and keeps the salary cap necessary to retain McLaughlin. I am assuming this is done deal.]

Honestly it's just from years of the Wolves not signing him every off-season he was available. It kind of feels like a personal accomplishment having him here.

Look he's a journey man role player, he's not going to be jumping off the stats page. What he will do is provide some of Taj's toughness and rebounding. I could see him playing next to KAT/Naz/ Juancho pretty smoothly.

A guy who knows his role and does it well

Thanks. So a poor man's Taj? I'll take that.

Whether Ed Davis is a good addition or not isn't my concern. Its why does Rosas give up a second and Spellman when Knicks acquired two second rounders for taking back Davis's contract. It just makes Rosas look like a terrible negotiator or terrible planner. This is not the first time, Rosas has disappointed as a negotiator. Drafting Edwards without the ability to trade down and get assets when Wiseman and Melo were the bigger draws was a bit disappointing and I think the Wolves gave up too much to get DLO when we were essentially bidding against ourselves and the Warriors knew it.

Ummm... yeah... am I missing something here?

New York gave up nothing for Davis and TWO 2nd round picks?
But the Wolves gave up two players and a 2nd rd pick for him?

Why not go directly to Utah for the trade in the first place?

[Note: If this is because Spellman and Evans were such terrible contracts... then why trade for them in the first place last year?]

You guys are getting way too caught up in other team's transactions and drawing conclusions on what the Wolves should have been able to do.

Ed Davis is a positive asset. Ed Davis did not fit into Utah's plans. Utah needed to move Davis's contract to make the cap room for other moves they wanted to make. The cost for moving Davis's contract AND not taking anything back was two future 2nd rounders. New York was one of the few teams that could accommodate that transaction (i.e. they had the cap space to take on a 5 mil contract without sending any $s out).

Ed Davis is still a positive asset. Ed Davis filled a pretty big hole for the Wolves. I believe Spellman is a positive asset, too. The Wolves were able to work a deal to get Davis in exchange for Spellman, Evans (a negative asset) and future 2nd round pick.

Hopefully it works out for both teams. I am confident the Wolves are VERY happy with how it worked out for them.

Ed who????

I hated to point this out, but maybe I have the details mixed up.Correct me if I am wrong. Did we trade two players, both making 2 mil/yr and a 2nd round pick for one player making 5 mil/yr. If that is the case, couldn't we just cut one player and save a mil and the second round pick while opening up a roster spot.

What scares me is it seems like this is Thibs all over again. Bidding against ourselves in RFA, and using up all of our resources on a team that hasn't shown an ability to make the PO's.

Unfortunately, cutting a player DOES NOT remove his salary from the books. So it doesn't save any money.

So in addition to this move creating a roster opening for JMac, we managed to add a front court player who is really pretty decent.

Yeah I dont see this very positive either. Spellman shot the 3 at almost 40 percent as a 22 year old. Somehow this is an asset that nobody in the league wouldnt want. In addition we give up a 2nd to get rid of him. Its crazy.

Also how does a player get to decide to not show up and still get paid? It has to be a violation of his contract. Also it bothers me how we would let a player just treat our organization like trash.

Honestly, I would have preferred rolling with Spellman over Davis who is much older and not a stretch big like Rosas seems to prefer and keep our second rounder. There must have been other ways to keep JMac around other than this trade and if not, its poor planning on Rosas.

I didn't see the year of the pick, but if its 2022, it will mean that Rosas has traded away 3 picks in the 2021 and 2022 drafts which are considered excellent drafts (I believe 2022 is expected to be the double draft).
