Ok. Dante's gone. Let's sign Thomas Robinson or David Lee and Gary Payton II if he's released by the Bucks. If not Gary Payton, let's sign Isaiah Canaan or Aaron Brooks.

I don't expect Trimble or Jefferson to stick with the team. I don't see either one as an NBA caliber player. They're both fodder for training camp playing on nonguaranteed contracts.

However, I do see Anthony Brown as someone who could end up contributing to the team short or long term if given the chance. Signing AB was a good use of one of our allowed 2-way contracts.

Glen was on Wolfson's latest podcast and when asked about the final 2 roster spots he said they were looking at a combo guard and probably a 3-4 guy (basically hoping Dante would choose them I would assume).

So...a combo guard. I looked at the available guys and most of the combo guards I saw were guys that i would think of you offered them an NBA contract they say yes where do I sign? The one guy I could see waiting around is Deron Williams. He seems like a guy that could just stay ready and wait till a good team has an injury (could be the Cavs) and sign on for the minimum. Barbosa is another guy that might not just jump at whatever offer.

Canaan is a combo guard. Monte Ellis? Stucky? Foye? Udrih? The suspense is killing me!!!! Jk

If we cold get Ellis or Stuckey for the vet min I'd be quite alright with that.

Please, not Stuckey or Foye!!! They bring nothing to the table. I'd be fine with Ellis, but if you believe Doogie, that won't happen. Combo guard? Maybe Barbosa or Canaan. Gary Payton II seems like someone who can play both guard positions. I'd love to see us sign him if released. Definitely not Deron Williams or Aaron Brooks. I see both as PGs, not combo guards, based on who they can guard - although I don't think either can guard anyone. :) And Deron Williams doesn't seem to have anything left in his tank.

I don't see any 3/4 guys left after Dante. There are 4s and 5s, but no free agents who can play both PF and SF. I trust David Aldridge and he said we aggressively pursued Bogut. That fact, plus our pursuit of Dante (who's primarily a 4) tells me we're likely to sign a PF or center to fill one of our final two roster spots. I think Thomas Robinson is the clear best choice at this point.

Wolfson reported that the Wolves may only sign one more guy and it would be a guard. Brooks is really a small shooting guard and Wolfson said he is still a guy the Wolves are interested in. I read a fan article that said he tended to play better with more minutes which could be key if Teague went down. Just sayin. At this point I don't really care all that much who they sign. It will be a guy with some good things and some glaring faults. You just have to pick which guy you want and which faults you want to deal with and what strengths you may want to play up. At least Brooks has been a good 3 point shooter on a healthy amount of volume. I've come around a bit on him although I still don't think he is all that good.

Jon K said in a reply to someone he wasn't to sure how "aggressive" the Wolves were in going after Bogut. Now that we know he only got $50,000 guaranteed I'd say they weren't too aggressive. The Lakers have Zubac and Thomas Bryant also so they have a glut of bigs even without Bogut. Zubac can actually play while Bryant is a pure potential guy although he may be able to play PF as well.

Interesting info, Monster. As for Brooks, I was applying Flip's analysis that your position is determined by who you can guard. Under that test, I think Brooks is more of a PG than SG. But offensively, Brooks is certainly more of a shooter than facilitator. I was just trying to predict who the Wolves might sign assuming they're intersted in "combo guard."

My preference has always been to largely ignore position and focus on skill set. In other words, what skills does this team need to add and who has those skills? Based on our shortcomings last season, we need better defense and 3-point shooting. Looking at our backcourt, Payton II would add defense while Brooks and Canaan to a lesser degree would add 3-point shooting. Canaan brings a bit of both. I don't see any particularly good defenders or 3-point shooters among the remaining free agent PFs or centers. Robinson jumps out at me among the remaining bigs because of his terrific rebounding. Just look at his per minute rebounding stats and read the draft evaluations of him coming out of college. He's a high-motor rebounder. I also like you relative youth at age 26. At this point, filling in the final two roster spots, I like the idea of adding a guy with at least one high level skill. In the backcourt that would be Brooks (maybe Canaan). In the front court that would be Robinson unless you're looking at adding another SF, in which case Dunleavy would be worth considering as a good 3-point shooter.

If it were up to me, I'd add Brooks or Canaan to improve our 3-point shooting and depth at PG. I'd add Robinson up front as a relatively young rebounder.

I'm not advocating bringing him in (or any of the players ai will mention) but Spencer Hawes is a 3 point shooting big. Kris Humphries has expanded his range the last 2 years and is a good rebounder. Advanced stats have liked Lavoy Allen until last season. I've always thought that guy can play especially in a limited role.

Hmm. Tomorrow is media day already!!! You would think some sort of guard signing will be announced today...

Sounds like it's gonna be Brooks. If he is the 3rd PG that's a pretty good move. I think Tyus will be better and want him to have a bigger role than Brooks. Brooks can play and a lot of teams run 2 combo guards out there for decent minutes so there are probably some times he can get out on the floor even with one of the PGs even if that's a pretty small backcourt.

"As stated on @1500ESPN today and on recent podcasts for weeks, free agent Aaron Brooks is worth watching to fill the #Twolves guard want."
