With only twelve games left now - I would agree with you. We're not even using Belly, Payne or Rudez at this point. The only remaining question is....will KG play again. I'm assuming he's going to play the last home game - but just my guess.
Haha, why would KG play this season? He's having a good time sitting back, relaxing and collecting checks. That's the good life. He might be doing that again next year.
Maybe. But I don't see it. I think this is it for him. I can't see him hanging on for another year like this. And that's why I think he might play one more time - our last home game. We'll see.

I think Flip is the only reason KG came back. I am sure Flip begged him and used Towns as the carrot. Anyway I think he won't be back.

I think KG served his purpose. It was a nice story and I'm sure he did help mentor the young guys. I think the young guys are ready to compete and we need to surround them with the best coach we can get a great role players.

Yeah, I was pissed when we made that deal for KG, then I settled down seeing how engaged he was and how we got off to that great 8-8 start with terrific defense.
Now I'm pissed again! I really hope he retires after this season and takes a role as a player development coach, working with the bigs on defense. He clearly either can't or won't play anymore, so it makes no sense for him to occupy a roster spot.

The Young trade, the lucrative signing or both? I ask because I don't remember your stance on either. It wouldn't surprise me if you were against both.
But yeah, KG needs to retire. I'd like to have that $8M to play with in free agency and another roster spot to use on healthy, capable body that wants to play.

The signing didn't bother me that much. The trade was bad. I didn't think we should have traded for Young in the first place, then to deal him for an old asset made less sense. The Payne trade happened next. Not a good period for Flip.

Here is one of the things I said at the time, after the deal was done:
What's ironic is that Thad might just be the type of player we target in a trade or free agency a year or two from now when we're looking for a young-ish veteran PF that can guard small-ball 4's.
It's really a shame we couldn't figure out a way to hang onto Thad and ultimately restructure his deal to a more reasonable salary. He was young enough and good enough to be a part of our core group for the next 5+ years.
If you recall, I was a big proponent of starting Dieng at PF and having Thad as a super-sub off the bench since teams tend to start big and then go smaller.
Imagine how much better our bench would be today if we had Thad in that very role with the squad we have today? Yes, we still need another big man/banger type, but we also need that small-ball 4 in the rotation.

Q thought Q's perspective was pretty good at the time and it still makes alot of sense. I think KG being here this year had some positive impact so I'll move on from those transactions because I prefer to do so. I do think KG should retire at this point. It always sucks when a player that has truly been great people are calling for him to hang it up. I would hate to see him come back for another year and those voices get even louder. Its KG so who knows I guess.

Greg Smith was signed for the remainder of the season. That move makes sense to me. The guy was actually an NBA player for playoff teams so he should be able to know more what he is doing out there than some young D-league guy. Is he some magical gem? No but he could be a solid stay in your lane depth guy and he is 25 years old.
AS for the other spot it feels a little weird that eh Wolves haven't picked someone up since they have a spot open and 2 guys still on the roster in Pek and KG may not even be available to practice. I do agree that whoever they pick up may not play at all so I get some of the thinking of not signing a guy you aren't really giving much of a shot to, but yeah. I suppose the other thing is they are keeping their options open in case the have to sign someone if they have injuries.

Well, KG did just make $8.5M this year and he only had to suit up to play 38 times and play less than 15 MPG to get it. He's set to make $8M next year to do the same thing all over again. If KG's as savvy as I think he is, he'll opt in, ride out another year of "mentoring" and collect those checks.
