Tayshaun Prince is currently represented by BDA sports management. YOU'LL NEVER GUESS WHAT THE BD IN BDA STANDS FOR!?!?!?!?!?

How much longer? Please tell me. How much longer are you sheep going to tolerate this?

It could, ironically, but I meant Bill Duffy.

Maybe if we're lucky and this deal does go through, a follow up to getting Miller will happen. I don't really like it, but who knows, we were beating some good teams when Kirilenko was playing good D, stoping some of the wing penetration into our bigs. A better guy running the 2nd unit and better perimeter D, maybe it moves Martin to a 6th man role, and we could actually see some wins. I don't think Prince is as good of a defender anymore as Kirilenko. I just want to be hopeful for a turn around. I know defense isn't something we've had in a long time, if ever really. KG was an elite defender in his day, but off the top of my head, other than Hassell, have we ever had multiple guys playing together that we're considered good-to-great defenders?

What I'm saying is, maybe a little shift in philosophy and JJ gone could go a long way to making us a better team. Still, I have serious doubts. Pretty much echoing all the concerns everyone else has expressed.

NBA Trade Machine seems to think we're 3 wins better after a Prince/Allen trade and Memphis is 8 wins worse. Pretty big difference there. I slept on this trade idea, woke up with a pretty reasonable thinking, a lot of which has already been said, but it's my thinking after a night to let the idea marinate.

Pros: We get instantly better for this season. We add two above average defenders while getting rid of two average at best defenders. What's been our problem this year? Bench play and defense. This trade could fix both of those aspects. Barea leaving makes me believe our second unit would actually be for the better; addition by subtraction. Bud's 3-year/$15M deal being dealt away also looks attractive; guy's athleticism doesn't anywhere near what it was two seasons ago (unfortunately).

Cons: While we do get better for this season, we take on an extra year of contract due to Allen's new deal last off-season. I'm not all that worried about Prince's contract anymore. I think we could use it next year pretty effectively to acquire some talent. We don't really have many trade chips right now and Prince's last year could be a big help in a trade to match salary (Eric Gordon maybe?). Allen's contract scares me more than Prince's when I went to look at it. Allen will make $5M as a 35-year old. Yeesh. We also wouldn't have a bunch of wiggle room this off-season to fix any other pieces (adding shooters, backup PG) that we might need to without finding someone to take Mbah a Moute or Brewer off our hands.

I'm back in favor of doing this deal. It's a risk, but we could definitely use a shake-up. I also think player for player, we'd get the better end of the deal. We know Barea's not a good fit for us, Bud has injury concerns. Think it's safe to say Prince and Allen are consistent contributors and will add a gritty element to our blend of softness.

Does this trade get done if Denver finally agrees to a Barea/Miller swap? Probably not. Is there a way we could make this deal, then ship Cunningham/Price/Hummel to Denver for Miller? New bench unit of Miller/Martin/Brewer/MaM/Turiaf.

We need to do something. I don't feel all that good about standing put right now.

That's the biggest issue is sitting put and thinking that our guys are just going to magically start playing better. That might work for a team like the Celtics had a few years back, where they had a group of very good veterans who had played together for a number of years and all they needed to do was get healthy or get a bench player back. We were a .500 team with most of our starting unit together. Something needs to be done to either clear cap space for the summer or bring in some guys who can help this season.

Miller is an obvious upgrade over Barea. I think in this league it's very important to have a guy who can either be a very efficient scorer off the bench, or a guy who can run things in the same way as your starter to some degree. Miller can do the latter, maybe in a different style than Rubio, but he's a willing passer and he's a smart veteran player, two things JJ is not. He's an energy hustle guy that tries his damndest on most nights; but at this point he's not doing what he did in stints last year. I think a change is best for both parties on that front.

How about not getting all excited about a 32 year old with a 8 PER making $8m the next two seasons. We'll start simple and go from there.

Camden: Keep in mind that is not a "to date" total. If you make that trade 50 games in, you aren't 3 games better, you're closer to one. Also keep in mind it is only based on PER's, not how often those guys will play based on who is already in front of them, and Martin IS better than Allen, so he's not playing THAT much. So it becomes $2m of more salary next season with MIN getting the worst player of the 4 and a backup SG. Do we get their 1st?

Either way you look at it, the difference in W/L on the trade machine was my point. And no, I'm not saying we should or shouldn't make any deal based off what the machine says. I just thought it was interesting how much worse it said Memphis got after the deal.

Personally, I don't care about PER, but I do get the machine uses that primarily. Agreed Martin is better, but I do think Allen would get about 23-25 minutes a night here regardless. Might be better that way too to keep them both healthy. All hypothetical as always.

I think it's sad, but if I wanted to, I probably could make a case (a weak one and a stretch) that Barea's the worst player in the trade and not Prince. That goes to show how much I think about JJ this year. Regardless of if Prince is the worst player, we'd also get the best player in the trade in Allen.

Ugh. We should have just traded for Courtney Lee.
