Andre Miller - per Doogie
Re: Andre Miller - per Doogie
What if it wasn't a Barea for Miller trade being proposed? Could Barea play off Miller and be successful?

38 years old. What happens to those guys is they get hurt. And then we're really in bad shape. We've been pretty fortunate this year with health, but we don't want to press our luck.

Miller did it with Lawson in Denver and it worked. Barea did it with Kidd in Dallas. It could work. I doubt they add Miller while keeping Barea. Doesn't make too much sense in my opinion. Who gets dealt?

Until this season, Miller had missed 6 games (total) in 14 seasons.
I believe all his DNP this season were coach/player related.

Shved, Cunningham and a 2nd rounder for Miller and Randolph?
Re: Andre Miller - per Doogie
I'd much rather stick with Shved than Barea. I took a look at the box score for the past five games and just by the numbers Shved appears to be playing way better than Barea
Barea in the past 5 games
Min - 77
Pts - 37
T.O. - 7
FT - 5/7
Shved in the past 5 games
Min - 31
Pts - 24
T.O. - 2
FT - 11/16
Barea dominates Shved in assist numbers but that is obviously attributed to the positions Adleman assigns them.
I would also rather see Shved play PG rather than try to trade for Miller but I don't think Adleman wants to put the ball in Shved's hands. If we can get Miller for Barea straight up I'd say go for it, Barea and Love don't seem to get along so getting some brownie points with Love would be a bonus.
What the Wolves need to address is a scoring big off the bench. Cunningham has been an abject failure this year and I think he has to go before anyone. I've been thinking of what we could get for Cunningham and after watching the Lakers yesterday I think that this deal would make sense
LaL - Cunningham/ 2nd Rnd Pick
Min - Chris Kaman
With this move Kaman could actually get some playing time (he's been a DNP-CD for the past five games) and the Lakers get Cunningham who they were reportedly interested in this off-season and D'Antoni gets an athletic big.

I don't think I want Shved in that deal. I'd consider it, but I'd rather get a Barea/Miller swap with a third team involved.

That's remarkable durability, and I didn't realize that. Only problem is he's never been 38 before.

Can't you say that about anyone? C'mon man.

Re: Andre Miller - per Doogie
Boy, lots of problems trying to be solved in this thread!
As for Barea, I agree he needs to go. I was for keeping Barea in the Barea/Ridnour debate, but the correct answer in hindsight was "neither of them".
As for Shved, I really like the idea of trying him out as our backup PG, but I'm not convinced yet that he's the right long-term answer. Yes, he has played better of late, but he's still shooting barely over 30% on the season and he wasn't much better last year. I need to see his recent surge in productivity sustained for a longer period of time before declaring him fit to be in the long-term rotation.
Ideally, we could trade Barea for an equivalent contract that expires this season, even if that player is deadweight. That would give Shved the opportunity to play more backup PG without creating discord in the locker room while also freeing up cap space for next season. Miller may be a decent short-term answer, but his contract runs into next season, plus it would nix the Shved backup PG experiment.
As for Budinger, I disagree with SJM that all he is good for is 3-pt shooting. A healthy Budinger is a very solid rebounder, cutter, passer, and mid-range shooter. His career 2 pt% is 48.5%, which is solid. He's only 25 years old too. I'm willing to let him work himself into shape and hopefully he regains the type of game he had throughout his first three years in the league with Houston.
As for Cunningham, it's a moot point after this season. His current contract expires and it probably makes sense to go find another free agent PF with a bit more size and scoring/shooting ability to backup Love.
