Sources: Three-way Corey Brewer deal taking shape: Ronny Turiaf to 76ers with a second-round pick. Sixers send Alexey Shved to Rockets.

Houston Rockets: B-
Somehow, Brewer has acquired a reputation as a 3-and-D specialist despite a distinct lack of makes from 3-point range. This season, he's shooting 19.5 percent from beyond the arc, and he's at 29.1 percent for his career. The inaccuracy hasn't necessarily deterred Brewer from firing away -- nearly a quarter of his career attempts have been 3-pointers -- part of the reason he's such a frustrating player to watch.

There are also some questions about the "D" portion of that equation. Brewer excels at playing the passing lanes and is annually among the league's leaders in steal rate (he ranks second so far this season). Besides helping him deflect passes, Brewer's long arms give him the ability to swallow up smaller players. However, Brewer is an undisciplined defender who can stray from the team's game plan, and he's historically rated average or worse defensively in ESPN's real plus-minus.

Of course, nobody knows these shortcomings better than Rockets coach Kevin McHale, who drafted Brewer in Minnesota and later coached him there. And yet McHale is still likely to prefer Brewer to his current defensive-minded wing options. Aging Francisco Garcia has been ineffective in that role this season, and while rookie Kostas Papanikolaou has proven a quick study defensively, adding Brewer frees him up to play more power forward.

More than anything else, adding Brewer simply gives the Rockets more options when injuries test their depth. And for his warts, Brewer is an asset in transition because he can outrun opponents up the floor, a plus on a team playing the league's eighth-fastest pace.

The biggest concern for Houston is that Brewer opts into the final season of his contract, 2015-16, rather than becoming a free agent. Since Brewer's salary ($4.7 million this year, $4.9 for the option) is on the high side for a reserve, that would cut into the cap flexibility Daryl Morey has worked so hard to create. Should Brewer decide to become a free agent, however, the Rockets haven't paid too much to upgrade their bench the remainder of the season.

Minnesota Timberwolves: A
The Timberwolves added Brewer to play for a team that no longer exists. He made sense on the receiving end of outlets from Kevin Love on a playoff contender, but now he's just blocking Shabazz Muhammad from playing time on a team that has finally conceded that it's rebuilding. So just getting rid of Brewer's contract is a win for Minnesota.

Beyond that, the Timberwolves saved more money this season by dumping injured center Ronny Turiaf (who might not play again this season after undergoing hip surgery), pocketed some cash and picked up a couple of second-round picks. According to Yahoo! Sports, one of those will be Sacramento's 2015 second-round pick, which should fall in the middle of the round.

Add it all up, and it's hard to imagine Minnesota doing much better in a Brewer trade.

Also, NO, we are not stacked at SG. We have Martin, who's good, and LaVine, who's still raw and learning. We also know Martin's minutes should be slightly reduced.

I wonder if this move throws Muhammad into the starting lineup. Based on his play only, he deserves to get that opportunity. I also think it would benefit Wiggins to play with Bazz as their games seem to mesh well, in my opinion.

LaVine/Williams
Wiggins/Daniels
Muhammad/Robinson
Young/Bennett
Dieng/Adrien

I'd like to see this until our "big three" (lol) comes back.

We really should be calling them our Busted Three!

They wanted Wiggins too. There was not way that would happen.
