I was getting nervous as the Blazers got it under 10 points. But it was our 22-year old that took over and re-established a double digit lead and it was smooth sailing from there.

Fun times!

Dane Moore says Wolves offense is top 3 in the last 2 weeks. That was before tonight's game. If they can get into the top 10 in both offense and defense down the stretch, it will put them into serious title contention.

Four consecutive road wins (2 against top 4 teams in their conference) with an average winning margin of 23.5 points...now that's how to go into the break!

So many things that made me happy last night, but my favorite happened early with the score 5-5. The ball came to Ant, and immediately 3 guys were on him (4 if you count Ayton, who was moving toward him). He calmly got the ball to Conley for a wide open three. The more he does that, the better this offense is going to be.

Another thing I get a kick out of. When a T-Wolf scores with an especially unusual (or talented) post move, Luka Garza pantomimes the move on the bench. He does it a lot when SloMo scores. Fun to watch.

I have to give Portland credit for fighting back after that disastrous 1st quarter. They did a great job dusting themselves off and fighting back. But in the end, they were just overwhelmed by talent.

- Besides NAW's defensive energy in the 3rd quarter, I thought KAT did an outstanding job defending the paint. And on offense, instead of automatically rolling to the hoop after screens, he spaced out beyond the arc, which opened up big driving lanes for Ant. This was a stint where not having Rudy on the floor worked out really well for the offense.

- This was a bad-hands night for Rudy. We've seen more hot-hands games from him recently, but not last night!

- Deandre Ayton has the Wiggins Complex - immense talent, but mostly ambivalent about the game of basketball.

- I thought it was smart of Finch to leave Morris in during garbage time and for Monte to ball hog it a bit. We really need him to get his legs and confidence back for the final push of the regular season and then the playoffs.

- Poor Anfernee Simons...He averages 23 PPG on 43% FG and 39% 3Pt on the season, but in three games against the Wolves he's averaging 12.3 PPG on 23% shooting. It's almost cruel and unusual punishment to sick Jaden and NAW on the poor guy.

Anyone see the video of Ant hitting corner 3s with his left? Jim Pete mentioned it last night.

I did not see that, but it doesn't surprise me. I think Ant gets easily bored without some sort of competition or challenge, which probably explains his recent foray into trick shots. I'm sure at some point he will try it out in a game that we have commanding lead in.

Ant might be one of these rare athletes that can become world-class in anything he really sets his mind to. I'm sure in a different era, he could have been a two or three sport college D-1 athlete.

Ted Williams might be the most extreme example because his talent crossed over from just athletic endeavors....he was at different points in his life one of the world's greatest baseball players, wartime aviators, and fly fisherman! Crazy!

While sports specialization has led to ridiculous amounts of talent coming into the NBA - more than ever - it's also sort of sad that we no longer see the multi-sport athlete much anymore.

Last night was a game of runs.

Wolves started on a 44 - 14 run.
Blazers immediately went on a 51 - 29 run.
Wolves respond with a 53 - 23 run.

LOL.

_______________

Another "professional NBA" win. Granted, giving up that Blazers run could be looked at as an embarrassment... but that's just how the NBA works. The Wolves are a legitimately good team and that means they can put it on opponents when they want to a lot of the time.

It's a new phenomenon for Timberwolves fans. ENJOY IT!

#1 seed at the All Star break is great. Weird. Amazing. Scary...
