Hearing that Randle is expected to sign a long term deal with the Wolves, I am disappointed. I wanted us to choose between him and Naz, not keep both

Let's see what kind of deal Randle gets if he does resign.

One thing to consider is Naz and Randle's combined yearly salary could be roughly what Towns will be making each year. It's possible it will be less.

I’d be happy to see Randle re-signed… he’s the only reliable scorer on the team besides Ant, brings needed grit and grind to the team.

While I don’t like the NAZ/Randle tandem, it really hurt last year when there was no other option other than Rudy to pair with either of those two. While Joan will not see regular minutes, especially early on, I feel better that at least Finch has another option besides Rudy.

Out of curiosity, where did you see this nugget?

“There is a growing belief that Julius Randle will be next in striking a long-term agreement to sign with the Timberwolves”

It’s apparently in a Marc Stein article behind a paywall: https://marcstein.substack.com/p/nba-fr ... alk-latest

I've said it before, but I understand the impulse to run it back with mostly the same crew, but it is really tough to swallow another year of a disjointed, imbalanced roster.

Conley/Ant/Jmac/Randle/Rudy continues to feel like an overly inconsistent lineup with a lack of pace or spacing.

Then again they had a nearly .700 record after Ju returned from injury and made it to the WCF.... I get it

That’s a really good perspective, Monster. I hadn’t thought of it that way, but wow.

It makes sense. The salary in the first year of Naz’s new contract leaves just enough room under the second apron to sign Randle to a multi-year deal that starts as high as $32M. My guess is that Randle will get a multi-year deal form the Wolves with a first-year salary of around $25M. I’ll have to check, but that might leave us enough room under the second apron to use our taxpayer MLE on a free agent. I don’t think Randle is an ideal fit for a team with Ant and Rudy. Moreover, I think he constrains Jaden. Having said that, he puts points on the board and gives us some needed toughness. So the question for me and others who don’t like Randle’s fit is who would fill the scoring void in Randle’s absence? I don’t have a good answer to that question but trading Randle would need to include a good answer.
