Iowa wins 156-137 against the Motor City Cruise to go to 6-2 on the season.
- Rocco got the start at Center: 26 minutes, 17 pts, 8 rebounds, 1 blk, 6-10 from the floor including 1-2 from 3. He was a +16.
- Someone is going to sign Zyon Pullin: 32 pts on only 10 shots/3rebs/6 assts/2 stls. He's the G-League version of Jamal Murray.
- Tristen Newton with 27 points/4 rebs/6 assists. He was 6-11 from 3. He has really improved his 3-ball.
The starting guards of Pullin and Newton are both lead guards, capable of playing on or off the ball, basically taking turns in setting up the offense. Neither are on a Two-Way. One or both will eventually be signed by some NBA team to a full roster spot or at minimum a 10-day deal as we enter the dog days of the NBA season.

Here’s my question… why is Ingles on this roster? This team is in desperate need of as many PG lottery tickets as possible and we need to get one or both of these guys signed to contracts now. Look what OKC found in that Ajay Mitchell guy… we need to find that guy badly. If that means cutting Ingles, Freeman, Hyland… they need to get both of these guys signed. I’m tired of wasted Roster spots. That’s what losing teams do… we have Conley, Randle, Rudy - that should be plenty of vet leadership. Get these guys signed so that another team doesn’t swipe them.

I believe they had Zyon Pullin on their camp roster so they must have seen him up close against the Wolves A and B teams during camp scrimmages. The guy has been ridiculous in the G-League. Check out these numbers through 7 games:
27.7 PPG on
67 FG%/55 3pt%/90 FT%, 3 rebs, 5.7 assists, 2.1 TOs, Net Rating of +11.6
And it's not just hot 3-point shooting, as he only takes three 3-point attempts per game. He's just a really accurate mid-range and short-midrange shooter and very crafty and creating his shots. Reminds me so much of Jamal Murray.
He isn't very athletic, so may be he ends up being one of these guys that has enough athleticism and skill to dominate G-League competition, but then hits a hard ceiling against NBA size and athletes. We have definitely seen that before with G-League guards and wings that can carve up people down there and then look nearly hopeless in the NBA.

Q, those of us who don't pay much attention to our G League team appreciate your insights. Pullin had terrific stats as a 5th year player at Florida...set a school record for best assist to turnover ratio, and was well over 40% on treys. He sure sounds like a guy we could use.

The Wolves re-called Freeman a week ago. I raised an eyebrow at Freeman being recalled but not Rocco. It makes you wonder:
- Do they just want extra "big" depth up here? Is Miller insufficient?
- Are they just clearing out the minutes in Iowa so Rocco gets more run, including the starts?
- Do they just want to get a better evaluation of Freeman in practice before swapping his two-way with one of Q's guys in Iowa?
Okay, I started going too deep down this rabbit hole! As Rocco stacks more games under his belt, I expect he will be recalled as well, either in the new year or after the trade deadline.

Freeman has been so meh down there. I hardly notice him and the team does so much better defensively when Rocco is at Center. It makes zero sense for Rocco to come off the bench now that he's proven that he can handle the competition down there. It's important he plays with our two best guards (Newton and Pullin) and also match up against the opposing team's starting 5. It's the natural next step in his development since he passed with flying colors coming off the bench.

Totally agree, DLoser! I was thinking the same thing last night after the game. It makes no sense to have Ingles sitting on the bench for anything other than comic relief. He’s not going to contribute meaningfully this season and isn’t going to develop into someone who contributes in the future. Let’s give Freeman’s two-way to Pullin and Hyland’s contract (Ingles roster spot) to Newton. Meanwhile, give Conley’s minutes to Rob and Shannon.
