Naz can score as a PF. Jaden can play more PF and in fact it might be his ideal position. Jaden can pick up a bit more usage and we aren't trading Julius for an empty chair! Don't you think the $30+M player we get back on the wing or PG might be able to make baskets too?
I don't want Jaden at PF. he will get killed down low. The idea is to play bigger and Jaden usually defends guards. Why can't we trade Rudy and get a wing or PG?
Because as promising as Beringer is, there is no way he can match or even come close to what Rudy does defensively. Eventually he may be a better all-around Center, but that's going to take time.

Also, I like Jaden better as an all-around two-way threat versus a guy that expends so much energy chasing guys way smaller than him. He's proven that there is more to his game than just being the main point-of-attack defender, which requires an enormous amount of energy.

And finally, the NBA rarely plays two power bigs anymore. Jaden has more than enough size to hold his own at PF if he's playing next to Rudy or Joan.
You must not be watching the game tonight. I think he will be just fine. Judging by the way Connelly has been talking him up I am guessing this is not a one off for him.

OKC and Denver are both stacked with bigs that are too much for Jaden to handle. While I like Jaden as a two way player he doesn't seem like he is ready for that mentally, but he doesn't seem to expend a lot of energy on that end anyway.

Rudy hasn't exactly shined for us in the PO's.

I agree with this take. I love Joan's activity and how he pounds the offensive boards, but defensive rebounding is such an important part of what a center brings, and Joan still struggles there. How can a near 7 footer play 16 minutes and not get even one defensive rebound??? He clearly has never been taught the basics of blocking out. I'm more and more convinced he is going to be a very good NBA center, but until he shows he can control the defensive boards, I think his minutes are primarily going to come against G League teams like tonight or when Rudy misses a game.

So based on tonight's game off the bench against an AD-less, Kyrie-less, Cooper-less, Lively-less Dallas Mavs you think he can just slide right into Rudy's role???

The beauty of keeping Rudy is that if Joan is as good as you think he is already, than he can stay in the game if Rudy is having on off night. Nothing wrong with having two good defensive bigs. And as Rudy ages, he'll eventually surrender more time to his backup.

And who are these bigs you are talking about that Denver and OKC are "stacked" with?? OKC almost never has two bigs on the court at the same time. Holmgren plays both PF and C but he's as skinny as Jaden! Denver has Jokic and JoVal, but they never play together. Houston is the one team that plays legit huge and they just lost Steven Adams.

We're not getting anywhere with this debate so we'll just agree to disagree. I suspect that Connelly has no intent on trading Rudy.

Who was Rudy playing against tonight that caused him to be in foul trouble most of the game? I don't have a problem with Rudy other than I think we overpaid on his extension, but I've witnessed too many PO games where he was (or should have been) played off the floor. Don't any of you wonder why Utah cut bait when they did? They had a similar team to the wolves current construction but with Conley and Rudy in their primes.

OKC has Holmgren along with Hartenstein and the other JWill. Denver has Aaron Gordon along with two you mentioned.

I don't want to wait for Rudy to age out before our rookie gets substantial minutes. We are all familiar with FInch's MO by now.

That has to be up there with the worst officiated game I have ever watched. Just sheer incompetence and amount of marginal contact called on Wolves players was unbelievable.

Clear fouls not called, clear non fouls called. Early in the 3rd quarter Naz plays good defense on a PJ Washington drive to the hoop, doesn’t foul, gets an elbow to the face then gets called for a foul. Finch challenges and they lose. How can they get it so wrong.

I’m not saying this was the problem but it was the first game I’ve watched with two female officials and only one male.

Embarrassing to watch.

I actually thought it was a foul by NAZ. I think the Wolves hoped the elbow to the jaw might get the call overturned. It's a technique problem NAZ has, but I think he has made some nice strides improving his defense. But on several occasions, including that call, he you see he leans forward with his upper to create the contact. He should eventually figure how to stand tall without leaning the upper body forward.

I think he's made some nice strides on the defensive end, including rebounding. I imagine the day will come when he moves into the starting lineup, but probably not this season.

What do you expect when there are two female refs?

Mmmm, I can think of a particular poster that recently left the board that might say something like this...

Either way, welcome (back?) to the board Mnwild!

Q weighing in with the conspiracy theory! But actually the poster you cite is a big advocate of women's basketball...very involved in coaching his girls' teams. But getting back to the point of the matter, I'll take a woman ref over Tony Brothers any day!
