nope it doesn’t have to be before. We have a long time to get back under. I’m no expert, but it was actually a consensus forgone conclusion on here that we only had the vet min. I knew this was always the most likely outcome with the 2nd year player option, if he actually wanted to come here. Not rocket science, guy

Apparently, it’s rocket science to you. Under the CBA, teams that use the taxpayer MLE are hardcapped at the second apron. Signing a player at the $6M taxpayer MLE would push the Wolves over the 2nd apron, which the CBA prohibits. Therefore, the Wolves will have to clear several million dollars to make this deal work. They can’t exceed the 2nd apron and later make a deal to get below it because the 2nd apron functions as a hard cap when it comes to using the taxpayer MLE

We're only about 2 million over correct? Does anyone know if Ball is still able to decline his trade kicker or can that only be done at the time of the trade? I think it was only worth 500K, but if he could do that we would only need to move about 1.5 million.

A move must get made before the kuminga contract becomes official.

I think it’s highly likely the Wolves will end up waiving and stretching Green’s contract. The stretch period is 3 years, which means Green’s salary would be on the books for three more seasons at $4,893,004 per year. That means the Wolves, who are now about $4M under the 2nd apron, would be around $13.8M under the 2nd apron next season before signing Kuminga. Signing Kuminga at $6 million would leave the Wolves about $7.8M under the 2nd apron. They would have enough room under the second apron to use the vet minimum to fill both the 14th and 15th roster spots.

I feel the same way, Phenom. I liked the idea of having Green’s toughness, maturity, hustle and three-point shooting on this roster. With Donte out most or all of the season, having a high-energy hustle guy like Green seems invaluable to me. But this could work out. It really depends on whether Kuminga becomes something he’s never been. I have my doubts, but I’m keeping an open mind.

I'm sure he'll be fine on offense, although playing as a 4 would have played up more of his strengths offensively. What I was excited for was to see his potential unlocked defensively.

Perhaps, delusionally, I was hopeful that between Ayo, Green, Clark, and who knows even Ant Jaden wouldn't have to defend at the POA so much. I believe this is how you get to mythical version of Jaden that is gassed up so much by the organization.

Since Green is likely moving out, and Kuminga/Lyles getting most of the PF minutes- Jaden is gonna spend another season getting worn out chasing ball handlers I just don't like it

On paper the roster has better balance, but I just don't like what Kuminga offers

Tim Connelly has been taking spending liberties ever since he got here - under Glen when he was majority owner, then under Lore as majority owner. This latest move with Stad as the controlling owner is nothing new for TC.
