He might be D Wade and may have to adjust his game now.

Now, I wouldn't start removing the meniscus or anything, but it's good that he's worked on the jumper and we can see how that's not being affected by the knee.

The days of dunking over Watanabe and Collins might be over though.
I feel like he's been adjusting it for a couple years now, starting with the '24-25 season when he really amped up his 3-point volume (and accuracy to go along with it). Then last year he honed in on his mid-range shot to go along with the long ball. And I think his size, footwork, and ability to use either hand around the hoop will help him continue to be a threat going downhill even if he doesn't have the same explosiveness. But yeah, the big poster dunks are probably mostly a thing of the past at this point.

I saw this earlier today before I watched the Cavs game so I was watching for when he got hurt...which never happened.

What a gut punch for a team that was off to such a legit great start and coming of a fun OT game again a good team (which another lengthy starting frontcourt).

Like some other have said so far it seems like there is depth with TJ and Ayo for sure. Bones has been kinda meh but they will need him to help. They do have a roster spot although I doubt they are gonna sign someone. I see they are bringing back Freeman because they couldn't get anyone else. I will say that if Bones doesn't play well or they need an actual PG Pullin could end up getting a chance to play. Williams getting a shot is more likely but still there does feel like plenty of depth to at least try out.

Kuminga is gonna get some more reign to score now and he is capable to some extent.

Beringer continuing to play reasonably well is gonna matter more than before. He did well against the Cavs.

The thing about Edwards this year was he just looked like a more mature version of himself. He just looks like a man out there. He still goes 1 on 1 sometimes that I'm not happy with but man sometimes he was so smooth. He definitely isn't just relying on his athletic ability for a lot of his scoring. I do worry about his health long term.

I'll add that the Wolves medical team has done well over the past few years. They won an award last year. I think they likely deserve the benefit of the doubt and Edwards likely injured himself at some point in season. It's definitely an odd seeming situation but I'd rather see them do something about it now than have him continue to gut things out for months.

I really shouldn't say this. Nope I'm not going to. Let me just say that I don't expect a dramtic dropoff in our play. We will miss his scoring greatly but we can compensate in other ways. I for one will still look forward to watching all the games. The biggest problem is now Melo and Jaden must stay in the lineup. One loss is doable, another key guy going down would be a problem.

Same here, Phenom. This video captures what I’ve read and also what I heard directly from an orthopedic surgeon friend of our in-laws who advised me not to have meniscus surgery because it would likely lead to arthritis within 5 years. Hope it’s minor and he comes back strong without ongoing problems. I have to believe they’ve already tried stem cell injections. The same family friend orthopedic surgeon is a big believer in stem cell therapy for joints.

Also, it’s clear Ant has already adjusted his game. I noticed him starting to lose some of his explosiveness a couple seasons ago. MJ didn’t have a bad knee but as he aged he lost some of his explosiveness and developed that killer fade-away mid-range shot. He remained just as great as he had been when his athleticism was superhuman in his early-mid 20s.

I agree we should give them the benefit of the doubt based on their track record. My guess is they were trying to manage it with an assortment of different treatments to avoid surgery precisely because of the potential cascade of problems that tend to ensue in the years following this sort of “clean-up” surgery. They finally realized those therapies weren’t working and are now taking the next step. I’m certain they’re only doing this because it’s necessary and I’m confident they were right to wait to see if non-surgical therapies would work.

I agree that as Ant’s game has matured and his knee began to bother him, he has made some adjustments to his offensive game. But he did have a couple explosive moves in the Cavs game. And he scored 47 points despite a knee that needs surgery! In addition, it’s clear that he took his defense to a new level this season. I don’t understand the narrative that his performance will be worse after he returns from this surgery. A good friend of mine who had this surgery a decade ago and ran the Boston marathon in a record time (for him) less than a year later said this to me last night: “he’ll be able to do everything he’s doing now when he returns…he’ll just be doing it without pain.”

As some of you have pointed out, not making all NBA is going to cost Ant millions. But I think he’ll still be able to afford going out to dinner once in a while😂, and the cap savings will go a long way to allowing TC to retain key pieces. A silver lining for him.

Yes, because he developed other facets of his game, Ant has been fantastic even though he has been less explosive in recent years. Being less explosive doesn’t mean he can never jump as high as he used to. As I understand it, his knee problem is a pain issue and that impacts not what he can do athletically but rather the frequency with which he can do them.

I don’t think anyone is suggesting Ant won’t be as good after the surgery as he was before. What I and some others are saying is that the sort of “clean-up” surgery Ant is apparently getting often leads to further deterioration of the joint and chronic pain over the longer term. And it doesn’t necessarily make a huge difference in the short term either. So I certainly don’t think his knee will be worse this season when he returns. My concern is that we can’t know how much better the pain will be or for how long. I hope Ant’s experience is similar to your friend who beat his own marathon record.

Most were worried about KAT's surgery a few years ago, he came back quickly and played in the playoffs that last year for us, and has played in 72 and 75 games the last two years with the Knicks...winning a championship along the way.
