I'm closer to this side, but I think it's pretty much 50/50 this was a good start or a bad one for the draft. On the one hand Jefferson gives us a slot guy we haven't had in several years and he can stretch the field for Thielen. Gladney is a Zim guy apparently with the way he plays so you hope that means he can be maximized. On the other hand Spielmen is really bad at evaluating WR talent in the early rounds. Jefferson isn't an outside guy and he played on a stacked receiving core with the best QB in college so who knows how much playing in the slot with that much talent around you just makes life that easy where it doesn't translate as well to the NFL. Gladney has already had knee injuries which we've seen slow down the development of Hughes so our starting 2 corners are coming off knee injuries. Not great. I don't care as much about the age factor for Gladney. If we can get a second contract out of him it's a win given our last couple high DB picks. It's a toss up for me that I can see it being a great 1st round or a disaster first round in hindsight pretty easily either way.

Jefferson played outside the previous year. Keep in mind this was a guy that was a nobody coming out of HS. He became something on a pretty stacked team. There are both positives and negatives there. Was Speilman involved in picking Harvin?

Age is a nice bonus for guys like Hunter Mattison Irv Smith and evening Treadwell etc who the Vikings have picked recently but not a reason to big knock a guy when it comes to the NFL. NBA a 23 year old guy...has to be something insanely special to be a top 10 or even 15 pick. Meanwhile Gladney is a guy with a ton of experience in college so maybe his development happens a year quicker mitigating that age thing. Daniel House probably isn't a football genius but he does his homework and always sounds like he knows what he is talking about. He is a big fan of Gladney especially in Zimmer's defense. Supposedly Gladney Did some pretty impressive testing numbers last summer in college. 4.34 40, 400LB bench, 410 Clean and 600 squat or something like that. He played basically a whole season with a knee injury and still had a heck of a season. The knee is a little concerning but I think on his own he is an intriguing prospect.

I was going to mention that as well. Last night Jefferson said this past season was his first playing in the slot and previously he was always on the outside.

So not only does he have outside experience, he learned the slot and excelled there in a single season and he gave props to his coach for getting him there. To me that speaks volumes about his ability and his mentality.

That offense had 3 first-round picks at QB, WR, and RB. They will have 4 OL lineman and a TE also drafted this year. That is crazy to think 8 players on a teams offense will get drafted in the NFL.

Vikings are still in mix for Trent Williams. If we are rebuilding I am not sure we go that route. We still have huge issues at LG.

Just a couple things.

Zimmer on kfan said they tried to trade up multiple times but nobody would trade. As much as I wanted to move up and grab Lamb if a team refuses to trade what else can you do.

Also I hear we would have taken Gladney at 25 anyway so cant complain about moving down.

As far as Jefferson it was hard to get over not trafing up for Lamb but am happy he fell past philly. I think a good comparison for Jefferson is Reggie Wayne. I can see it and think thats a solid pick.

I really want to see us deal up to get winfield today and trade Harris hopefully for a 3rd. I like harris but we cant afford to pay him 13 or 14 million. Damn that barr contract looks worse and worse every day. Then trade rieff and a 3rd for williams. Also go get tyler johnson as well. Then load up on some ol and cbs. Hopefully can nab amik.

Heard we offered a 4th for williams and they want a 2nd so meeting point would be a 3rd.

I may be on my own island, but I'm just not a fan of Winfield for our team. What's he gonna do against all these elite WR's and TE's towering over him at 5'9 20 yards down the field? I don't love his potential as a center fielder which is what we use Harris for to let Harry play all over the field.

I'd love to trade up and get AJ Epenesa out of Iowa. They don't have him projected as an elite pass rusher, but I'm surprised he was rated this low because the guy was just an absolute wrecking ball last year. Whenever I tuned in he was just a problem for the O-Line to deal with.

Good LBs are getting 10 million these days so that makes the Barr deal a couple million more than that. Eh. Could they get a guy like Wilson cheaper? Probably. I don't think Barr gets valued what he is worth on both ends of the spectrum both good and bad.

I like him a lot too. Meanwhile the Vikings don't need to trade up for pass rushers. When was the last time the Vikings took a DE in the first round? Nope they can find and develop guys at that spot just fine in the mid rounds.

So I wonder if Cleveland can slide into LG, his weakness is strength so I doubt it. But maybe. Can he challenge to start at LT right away? Probably not. Maybe Rieff can switch to LG?

Ask Todd McShay. He had him as a top 40 player.
