Twins trade Abad to the Red Sox for Relief pitcher Pat Lite who has thrown in the triple digits. He seems like a decent relief prospect that's nearly ready and that's what the Twins need to find. He is under team control for 2 more year after this one.

Free agency is much trickier. You could be outbid. He could want to play for the other team because his friend from highschool/college/minors is on that team. His father could have played with someone who works for that team. The agent might be pressing hard to get him on that team in exchange for some of his other clients getting a better-than-otherwise-expected contract.

But when a guys says "Look, if I sign with you, I want it in writing that you will never trade me THERE" that's a powerful thing.

Word is Berrios is coming up but no word yet on who goes to make a spot for him. Fingers crossed for a trade of Nolosco. :)

I have to say, if MIA is really interested in 33 y/o with a 4.37 NL ERA and a 5.44 AL ERA, then MIN needs to make that happen. BSPN says MIA is having a hard time making deals because nobody likes their prospects, but I mean really, they can't find ONE guy in 150 who is capable of a better carreer than that?

25 y/o, #13 BOS prospect, leads Pawtucket in saves. Great deal. Now dump Nolasco on MIA and trade Kintzler to TEX for Michael Roth and call it a deadline.

Hector Santiago is headed to Twins, along with RP Alan Busenitz, for two starting pitchers. @Ken_Rosenthal says Ricky Nolasco, Alex Meyer.

Sounds good to me.

Wow. They must have really soured on Alex Meyer. But at least Nolasco is gone. I haven't been this excited to see an athlete leave MIN since maybe Sebastian Telfair or maybe Martin Havlat.

Team is definitely better on paper. I'm sure they extend Suzuki now. SS will be scary until Gordon is ready.

These aren't blockbuster deals, but I love both of them. First of all, I agree with Jason...so glad to see Nolasco gone. I was living in LA in the summer/fall of 2013, and he was pitching really well...but he was such a terrible teammate. He didn't seem to have any relationships on the Dodgers, and things were no different here. I don't think he's a dick or anything, but he just doesn't seem to care about anything...really difficult to cheer for him.

The moves are very un-Twin-like. These are not pitch to contact pitchers...these are strikeout guys who also tend to walk a lot of batters. The Red Sox reliever could have huge upside if he con learn to control that big fastball. And I think we really picked the Angels pocket on the deal with them. Meyer was an exciting prospect, but he wasn't figuring it out and it was time to cut the cord. And somehow Meyer's potential brought us back a very good left-handed starter in Santiago. The Angels must have really liked Meyer, because Santiago has been terrific recently...6-0 with a 1.78 ERA last month! I don't get it, but I like it!

I would imagine Meyer was the prize for the Angels maybe it pays off for them but it's fine the Twins moved on. First he has to actually be healthy then he has to actually like figure out how to be good. The Twins are paying Nolosco's salary this year and giving them 4 million for next year also so they aren't saving money here but they get Santiago who is a solid starter and they need those. If the new GM wants to move on from Santiago he can as well or even trade him.

No question that Meyer was the attraction to the Angels in this deal, monster. I hate to bring this up because Meyer always seemed like a good guy, but there are rumors that his shoulder injury this year is really a "shoulder injury"...that agent Scott Boras didn't think the Twins were going to give him a chance, so he told him to force a trade by faking an injury. I hope not, but if he is healthy all of a sudden in Anaheim after missing most of this season, I'm going to be pretty pissed.
