Grizz fire Fizdale and JB Bickerstaff is the iterim coach. I wonder what the win record is for a coach acting as interim.

I feel like JB has been the interim coach for every team in the league at some point.

Crazy. Memphis got off to that great start and then just fell apart. One obvious problem both last season and this is injuries, especially Conley being out for the last 7 games or so. The other problem is that when he was playing, he was cold as ice (along with Gasol). It seems like shooting woes and injury issues aren't really a coaching issue.....

If they get themselves healthy, don't count them out for that 7th or 8th spot. Green, Parsons, Gasol, Ennis, and Conley - if healthy - could be a very solid starting 5 that can get it done on both ends of the court.

One thing that the Dunc'd On guys mentioned in their podcast from last night was that Gasol just has not been playing as well based on the numbers. They pointed out his defensive numbers in particular have been poor with them actually performing better with him off the floor. They said that there is obviously some nuances to the numbers but Nate and Danny said they have noticed a few instances where Marc just wasn't the effective defender he had been last year and maybe the decline we expected from him is arriving. It could also be partly that he is having to do so much with Conley out and so few established NBA players playing with him. They also mentioned some friction between him and Fizdale so they were on top of that although they did not expect him to get fired. JB is a pretty legit coach and well respected and I think he was part of why they were successful last year especially defensively. You are right if they can get healthy or at least more healthy they could still be in the playoff picture and some other teams have struggled and had their own injury issues.

Detroit just knocked off Boston at home. They're good. Less shame in those losses now I suppose.

Philly had a chance to make a statement tonight at home and ended up getting put in their place by Cleveland, who won handily.

The Cavs have now won 8-straight. And this is with Tristian Thompson and Isiah Thomas recovering from injury. I know they will miss Kyrie Irving, but I think they may actually be a much deeper team this year once everyone is healthy. They have Jeff Green, D-Wade, Frye, and Korver as all very solid bench contributors. Add IT and TT to that mix along with Love, J.R. Smith, and LeBron.....they are still the favorites in the East IMO.

Stan Van Gundy is someone Thibs fans should point to if the message is we need to be patient. SVG took that team over in the dual POBO/Coach role back in 2014-15. They proceeded to wallow in mediocrity for the next three seasons and now in his 4th year they appear to be breaking out. And his only major move this past offseason was to trade Morris for Avery Bradley.

It's pretty amazing the run they are on but the reality is that roster is seriously flawed...but they have that a Lebron guy and some other guys are obviously chipping in. Losing Rose probably is actually helping them. Calderon probably is no worse defensively and probably helps things along more offensively as a starter at PG.

I'm not sure how flawed it is once they are all healthy. Defense is their biggest issue, but I think a healthy TT will really help out there.

I guess part of what I was thinking is it really depends on if IT can play or not. If he can and play at a pretty good level (not MVP but legit starter level) then yeah but that's a legit question whether he can do that. Yeah the defense is the question. I don't see any way it stays in the bottom of the league but how much above say league average can they get? It will be interesting.
