The Hornets aren't giving up much for a rotation guy who can win them a playoff game or two.
Wizards also got a 2nd in the trade. They will struggle on defense but obviously I like the trade for the Hornets though

Sachin Gupta? More like Sachin Uff-da. Most of these deals have been incredibly reasonable. Playoff teams are getting better. Minnesota? We're having family dinners.

Frankly, he's one of the best defensive guards in the league and he offers adequate scoring and facilitating on the offensive end -- albeit with an inconsistent perimeter shot. Minnesota needs to acquire more two-way players, yes, but especially ones that can contribute consistently in some capacity. White's defense translates every night and he's proven to be effective as a starter or as a reserve. Sprinkle in the fact that he's a combo guard capable of taking over lead guard duties in the case of running a second unit or spot-starting when a starter gets injured. There's a lot to like with White.
I'm curious about what San Antonio would trade him for, especially considering he's signed through the 2024 season. I would offer Malik Beasley, Leandro Bolmaro, and a first-round pick for White straight up. I'm sure some here would scoff at giving those assets up for White, but I think he fits everything Minnesota wants to do while being secured for the next three years below market value.
Well, I wasn't too far off. Now I'm worried that Minnesota is going to give up Malik Beasley and a first-round pick for Marcus Smart, essentially playing ourselves by not going after the superior guard in Derrick White while replenishing the war chest for Boston.
Even though I dig so many of the intangibles that a guy like Marcus Smart brings...
But it's a possibility...
Yeah, ironically, now I find myself hoping Minnesota doesn't make any trades out of fear they'll make a bad one. I don't have as much confidence in this front office after seeing so many useful players get moved for reasonable returns or practically nothing. Sachin Gupta should have been in on a lot of these guys. Maybe he was, but the inability to close would then be the issue.
Family. Love. Togetherness. Bahamas.
I have no problem moving on from Beasley. He's a one-trick pony who offers nothing when his shot is off.
And I'm not one to get too caught up in draft picks since I've been around for ALL of the Timberwolves picks that didn't pan out. Plus, I like Smart (mostly).
But I don't think he'll ever be better than he has been in Boston. And frankly, I think there is a limit on how much I'd be willing to pay for diminishing returns moving forward. His contract will be $16.6M next season... $21.3M in 2026. That's a lot of time to embrace/despise Marcus Smart.
Cam I still wouldn't do the 3 assets you mentioned for White. I would have considered Beasley and a 1st for him (which is kinda what I was thinking when I saw that trade happened) but I think the Celtics gave up more especially with that pick swap which could be meaningless but you never know.

Come on what a joke
Its hard for the Wolves because they are right up against the tax line and the Wolves have no player to match salaries much who isn't in the rotation.
This is likely a big reason why a number of deals the Wolves could have made didn't happen.

You'd let Leandro Bolmaro be the dealbreaker? Maybe I'm not understanding that correctly.

I just don't see Derrick White being worth 3 assets. That's my position. It's ok if you don't agree.

The Mavericks are trading Kristaps Porzingis to the Wizards for Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans.
This is a huge buy-low opportunity for Dallas. Dinwiddie is an awesome fit there.

Maybe Monster knows that the NBA is removing shooting/scoring as one of the key elements of basketball?

They are buying low on Bertans also. That contract is bad but if he gets back to being a elite 3 point shooter again he will be worth a decent chunk of that contract. This one came out of nowhere though. Meanwhile the Wizards get someone more exciting if somehow healthy than I would have expected. Maybe it works out for both teams...or shuffle the deck chairs. Either way it's interesting so I approve! Lol
