I think the Celtics would be foolish to trade Jaylen Brown and multiple picks for Durant. If I were in charge of the Nets, I'd certainly swap Durant for Brown and 4 future unprotected first-round picks. But I'd still prefer to deal Durant to a team that's unlikely to win a title if I could get a return comparable to Brown and 4 future firsts.

If you're a team not listed by Durant why would you give up anything of value for a guy that could jump ship at any moment?

You probably wouldn't. But you never know. In any event, Everything Durant has done is calculated to force a trade to a team he wants to be with. Durant's public "them or me" ultimatum was obviously an effort to reduce the Nets' bargaining leverage and, thereby, reduce the Nets' trade demands to enhance the chances of a trade. Durant's public disclosure of his short list of teams is obviously intended to dissuade all the other teams from pursuing him.

But I'd be hesitant to trade for him even if I'm one of the teams he's listed. Durant is obviously as fickle as they come. He wanted to be part of the Nets' "super team" -- that is, until it wasn't super. Previously, he wanted to become part of the Warriors who at the time were a genuine organically grown super team. But when he didn't get enough credit or had his ego bruised a bit, he wanted out of Golden State. In other words, it's clear as day you can't trust him - which is why I wouldn't give up much to get him even if I'm one of the teams he listed.

Lip the one caveat is that Durant is signed for 4 more seasons. Yeah he can demand out but you still can likely get something for him even if he wants out and maybe even if his ability to impact positively on the court drops off a fair amount. He will still probably be a really good shooter that's the size of a center that can handle the ball. Obviously him being signed that long at his age comes with its own risk too but yeah.

Let's just say I'm glad it's not my problem what Durant does or doesn't do. Again though I don't feel THAT bad for the Nets. They decided to go down this road and likely going to get plenty back for Durant because the reality is that Durant is still a very good basketball player.

Monster - I join you in not feeling bad for the Nets. They thought they could take a short-cut to success by collaborating with a trio of free-agent stars to form a super team under the bright lights of Brooklyn. Did I just say "bright lights of Brooklyn"? Well, anyway, you know what I mean. :) I love that the collaboration failed miserably just like I was thrilled when the Laker superteam gambit had a short-lived success that lasted only one season. I'm hoping that the Nets and Durant end up co-losers at the end of this. That's what would happen in a just world. :)

The latest on Durant from Andre Iguodala:

Andre Iguodala gave his perspective on Kevin Durant's situation on the Point Forward podcast, naming the reasons why the two-time NBA champion Durant, who won both titles together with Iguodala on the Warriors, should stay in Brooklyn. "I think he should stay in Brooklyn, it's such a big market, it's good for the game and just figure out how to make it work like everybody grow up and make it work. That's how I feel about the situation," Iguodala shared his perspective. - via BasketNews

I like Iguodala's take on Durant's situation. I especially like his phrase "grow up and make it work." I think Iggy sort of hit the nail on the head. When I think about it, Durant strikes me as an overgrown child -- always looking for the shortcut, blaming others when things don't go well, threatening to take his ball and go home if he doesn't get his way and overreacting to criticism. He's not a bad dude by any stretch and he's certainly a tremendous player. But as Iggy indicated, KD needs to grow up.

Why didn't Iggy take his own advice when he was traded to Memphis a year ago and refused to play and still collected checks. Yes Durant is a baby sometimes but it is super hypocritical for Iggy to be the one giving him advice

Lol. I forgot about that episode. Yep, a bit hypocritical. But then again, his situation was significantly different from Durant's. Iggy was a marginal player who had just been traded to a what was at that time a perennial loser he didn't want to play for. Durant chose the Nets. That's the team he wanted to play for. And once there, he signed a 4-year extension with a huge super-max price tag. He also has a history of engineering moves to teams where the going will be easier for him. Just a very different situation and different history from Iggy. I still see the hypocrisy, but it's pretty minor. And a person can be both hypocritical and right at the same time. :)

I think it would be more accurate to call Memphis a perennial playoff team that was rebuilding. They had also just drafted Morant and ended up 9th in the west that year. Iggy could have at least shown up and imparted some knowledge or something but he didn't want to show up at all. Of course Memphis didn't want to just buy him out either because they thought a team would value him in the trade market. That was only kinda right. Likely one of the problems was Iggy's salary made him more difficult to move. They may have been better off just moving on and signing a young player (or someone else) with the 15th roster spot than end up with Justice Winslow who didn't stay healthy again. That's not exactly an inspiring return for Iggy and Crowder.

I think the Lakers trade Westbrook to UTH at some point they can really help out the Lakers.
