Mmmm, who was it that started such a rumor? A) his agent, B) his Dad, C) Someone at ESPN, or for all you conspiracy theorists out there, D) All of the Above.
It always brings a little smile to my face seeing Lonzo toil away in relative obscurity for the Pelicans versus his early days of breathless coverage from ESPN in L.A.
The dad recently was whining about Ball coming off the bench. Also said... all three of his sons could team up and "dominate" the NBA.
So there's that.
I'm saying bullshit unless Lavar is the coach. With an average NBA coach those three would be lucky to get out of the first round.
To be fair... one of them isn't remotely good enough for the NBA.

Lamelo hasn't been as good lately. He'll be an interesting case
Is Charlotte trying to create a culture of ... what?!?!?... accountability?
Charlotte Hornets coach James Borrego says rookie LaMelo Ball playing like he did Friday costs him minutes, regardless of Ball's huge potential.
"If you're turning the ball over five times in 16 minutes, that ain't gonna cut it for me," Borrego assessed Saturday of Ball's performance against the Chicago Bulls. "If you're doing that on the offensive end, you better be bringing something defensively."

I know, my post was totally tongue in cheek.

Yeah. Should have caught that from your first sentence. Glossed over that part.

Love it! Hopefully he'll ultimately be better for it.
While I'm hugely down on the Edwards pick, I've been mostly OK with how Saunders has handled him. He's given him a very steady, yet fairly contained, role. And they seem to have driven it into him to try his damnedest to get to the hoop. Unfortunately, he's just plain sucked at finishing shots and doing much else of value.

I was really sad to wake up this morning and read that Sekou Smith just died.

Not sure if you guys ever listened to the Hang Time podcast, but I used to really love listening to him and still sometimes have in the last year or so.
If the Dunc'd On podcast is like sitting in on an analytics conference and the Ringer NBA podcasts feel a bit like overhearing some hipster grad students, the Hang Time podcast always felt like hanging out at the playground watching a pickup game with an old timer who actually knew the players. He was never a numbers guy and tended to rely on cliche a bit, but he always came off as authentic and relatable. He didn't pander to players or coaches, but he also always treated them like the humans they are. He was a sportswriter, not a psychologist, but a lot of his commentary seemed to focus on the mental side of the game or the social dynamics on teams. It could be easy to listen to short clips talking about a player's mentality or team chemistry and dismiss him as out of touch, but I think he focused on some really important and intangible parts of the game that can't be quantified. (The year he hosted the show with John Schuhmann--a numbers guy--was a great blend.) Above all, he just came off as a good guy who loved basketball. I knew he had kids, but I was surprised to hear he was only 48. Just really sad news.

Anybody following the year former Wolf Wayne Ellington is having? He's earned his way into the Pistons' starting lineup, and is averaging 20PPG on 53% 3-point shooting (6.7 attempts per game). I had forgotten that he made almost 40% of his threes his first two seasons with the Wolves. I don't miss him because it appears his defense is still as DLO-like as ever, but it's still fun to watch his results this year.

Wow, didn't know that. Good for him. I don't recall his defense being that bad.
I think a guy like Nowell could easily carve out a career as a solid backup SG like Ellington has and may be even better.

Ellington does one thing quite well... shoot three pointers. A bit of a specialist. But not "elite"... never finishing a season above 40%.
When he's on... he can be a plus player. Unfortunately, he doesn't bring enough (anything?) other stuff to the table... hence he's on his 9th team in 12 seasons.

I remember Wayne's defense as being often cringeworthy, Q. Nowell on the other hand appears to be a solid defender. His inability to find his way onto the court tells me that he is a complete flop in practices, or that Ryan is a horrible judge of talent, because he consistently impresses in his limited minutes (granted, many of his minutes are garbage time, but he seems equally proficient in his real minutes). Not sure which one it is.
