Darren Wolfson on Jarred Vanderbilt and Jordan MacLaughlin: The Wolves continue to work diligently trying to re-sign both restricted free agents.. in particular with Vanderbilt. Everything is on the table, including signing the qualifying offer, which would then lead him to be an unrestricted free agent in a year. But the hope is a long-term a multi-year contract can be worked out. Of the two, I would say the Wolves are making more progress on McLaughlin. 8 hours ago - via Spotify

Good that the Wolves are apparently working hard to sign both. Not so good that they're making more progress with JMac than Vanderbilt. Nevertheless, I'm sure the Wolves will sign both unless Rosas makes a major trade that significantly reduces or eliminates the need or ability to keep them. The challenge appears to be getting agreement on multi-year deals. Otherwise, it's a simple matter if signing them for one year to the QO. I don't see either one getting any significant offers from other teams. The money has dried up and there are few roster spots left around the League. Meanwhile, there are more consequential free agents like Millsap and Avery Bradley who are still available.

Lip, thanks for sharing. That's to be expected, but still good news. I think Minnesota will end up signing Jarred Vanderbilt to a three-year, $12.3-million deal with a team option, or similar.

It's been reported that Minnesota offered Vando three-million and he wanted six-million. I believe the compromise will be that they find some middle ground on the salary amount and that he'll get multiple years of guaranteed money while the Wolves keep a team option on his final year just in case. That seems to be the Gersson Rosas way on these smaller deals.

Does this open up a Hernangomez for Tyus trade?

Taurean Prince for Patrick Beverley would be fun for a year. Minnesota hasn't had a tone setter in years.

But I'm not so sure Memphis would want Prince.

Perhaps, but Prince is a wing with size that is a good shooter. The Grizzlies are also thin at the wing. Both players are on expiring deals. While a deal may never transpire, it's not too far off in terms of value for each team. The question to me is who else is calling Memphis for a point guard? They now have Ja Morant, Tyus Jones, Rajon Rondo, and the aforementioned Beverley. Those are all established players that will not tolerate being buried on the bench so something has to give. Whether Minnesota gets involved or not is a different story.

I was actually surprised that Rondo and Beverley were statistically virtual twins last season.....with Rondo maybe having slight advantage (although he was injured and played far less games). They are both heady, tough defenders. Rondo is 1/2 the cost of Beverley, and I agree above that Memphis would likely want to move one if not both guys. Issue is that I think Prince may be a worthwhile player of need for Wolves, so maybe we could find another deal?

3's or 4s
-------
Clark
Brooks
Anderson
Bane
Tillman
Z. Williams (#10 pick)

Wouldn't Prince be just another guy in that bunch? In fact, I could see him behind all of those guys either for current production or potential. That's while fully understanding that Rondo and Beverley have minimal role on the team either. I just think Memphis would want to unload Beverley for something other than a lateral move (deep rotation player). Maybe taking back an even worse player but with a pick sweetener if nothing else.

Furthermore, Beverley has never played on a losing team. Some vets like him might embrace being a leader for a young team probably out of the playoff picture. Others will scoff at that as they near their mid 30s.

[Note: I do dig the concept of a fully engaged Beverley on the Wolves. But with questions of him buying in... I agree with Hicks that Prince could offer some value for the Wolves, too.]

Three years/$12.3M for Vandy sounds about right, Cam. I'm thinking around 3 years/$6M for JMac.

And I still think we need a bigger, better version of Ed Davis. We can't go another season where KAT, Vando, Reid, et al get pushed around and destroyed in the paint by the bigger teams. These guys simply don't have the size and toughness to do battle in the trenches. A trade is probably the best path I guess.

Apparently, the Wolves will sign Bolmaro today. I'd rather keep him in Europe for another year, but that's not going to happen. I've gone back and forth on Bolmaro. I didn't like the pick last year. But i was impressed by his play in Europe this past season. Then he turned struggled in the Olympics against better competition. I've watched a lot of Bolmaro video. He seems to lack the level of quickness and athleticism needed to excel in the NBA. We'll see. I remain hopeful, but skeptical.

I agree, Q.

Bolmaro had a really nice string of games with his club team, but then began to trail off in the latter third of the season or so. He was a non-factor in the Olympics. I think this is a mistake and it hamstrings other potential moves we could make to improve the team.

Yep, I think he's in town, and we might even have a press conference today or tomorrow. While I agree with the consensus here that I would have rather seen him stay in Europe for one more year, I can't help feeling some excitement about this kid. My gal and I would have gone to Vegas and hung out with monster had he played, but alas that didn't happen. I don't expect him to get many minutes this season and I also see him as a 2 rather than a 1 (that could change, and the article calls him a 1), but I really liked what I saw from him defensively in video...he gets after it. If he develops a lot more polish offensively, he and Jaden could be a formidable pair on the defensive end. Wishful thinking I know, but heck, I'm a Wolves fan.
