Q - Yes, Thibs has made it clear he's not trading Wiggins, KAT or Zach. I'd add Gorgui to the list of players I'm certain he won't trade because it's clear that Thibs loves him, repeatedly praising him for doing the things that don't show up in the box score. So that leaves Ricky as the only player of value that I think Thibs would be willing to part with. However, giving who we have behind Ricky at PG and considering how well Ricky played down the stretch and how much Thibs has praised him recently, I'd say that it's unlikely Ricky gets traded.
I wouldn't trade our pick for Covington since he's a free agent. I doubt the Celtics would be interested in our pick for Crowder since the Celtics have plenty of picks this year and are already a contender. Portland might deal Aminu for our pick. Not sure who we could include for salary match purposes.

Yeah, I agree that there just might not be a deal to be found. By I'm positive Thibs and Layden will have a bunch of talks with teams about it. If they know they can solve one key need by trading their draft pick, that narrows down the to-do list when it comes to the crapshoot of free agency.

That's just the way the NBA is transforming. It's hard to be 6'10 and good guarding and playing on the perimeter all game. There aren't many guys who can do it. Maybe he can. The couple games I saw FSU I didn't really see a guard in a bigs body on the floor as some of his scouting reports have reported. Anthony Davis went through the same transition as a guard who was a late bloomer and I just don't think you can put AD on the wing all game long so why can Isaac do it? I guess I just have to see more that tells me he's a legitimate wing and not more of a mobile 4.
Thanks For laying out your thoughts Kahns. I haven't seen enough of him either. I'd like to see some actual game action. I'll have to go to YouTube and find a couple games.

FYI the Sixers have an option on Covington for next season for like 1.3 million which obviously is a terrific deal. He isn't going to be a FA this year.

Bummer! I though it was a player option, but I checked and you're right. Assuming we end up with the 6th pick, would you deal that pick plus Payne for Covington? If so, do you think the Sixers would take that deal?

I've made that option mistake before.
Hell no would I do that deal.
Find your own damn Covington by signing or drafting some dude that becomes a solid 3 and D guy. It's insane to trade a top 10 pick for the next Trevor Ariza or whatever. Crowder? I could see the value of that but the Celtics don't need any more picks.
I was looking at realgm the other night seeing what their thoughts were on Christian wood and yes there were guys crazy overrating Covington saying they wouldn't trade him straight up for Wiggins! I see the value of Covington and how he is a complimentary player and how he isn't going to cost the max and advanced stats for both players etc buuuuuuut yeah. :)
Also why include Payne? That's totally the deal breaker. Lol I do think the Wolves see something in the guy because they played him some and he actually looked more than decent. My guess is he will come back cheap if that's what they want to do.

Lip you bring up the logistics of each player perfectly. Portland is in for some tough days ahead. They spent big money on crabbe, turner, cjm and have now the 2nd highest team salary. Plus, they have gotten after I feel the trade of the year Nurkic and an additional 1st which makes 3. Only player I would inquire about for the pick is Harkless and Ed Davis! Otherwise like Monster mentioned, go get that Covington type player at 7. Stop f'en around and draft proper

Monster -- I agree with you that we should NOT trade our pick for Covington or a comparable player. Answering my own question on what the Sixers would do, I think they'd trade Covington for the 6th pick in a heartbeat. As you said, it's time for our front office to find their own Covington via the draft or free agency. Guys on RealGM saying they wouldn't trade Covington straight up for Wiggins??!! All I can say is wow!!!

The problem is we never seem to be able to find the Robert Covingtons or Jae Crowders of the world in the draft. Never. Or almost never.
So while I agree we need to get the right value back for our pick, I have no problem using it for a really good role player + whatever else is needed to get equal value (may be a future protected 1st or a bunch of 2nd rounders?). After all, don't we already have our "stars" in KAT, LaVine, and Wiggins? Thibs seems to think so.....

Q the reality is good teams are able to find those solid role players. We can't just be like "Well we didn't before so..." trading a top 10 pick for some of these guys would be like when we traded much lower picks for guys like Budinger and Webster only those picks were not lottery picks and neither guys worked out here because of injury.
Back to finding role players. If this organization can't find those guys we won't be good enough it's that simple. You HAVE to do that it should be an expectation of fans to find some solid players that aren't top draft picks etc.
