Around the League
Re: Around the League
Monster - I haven't thought about Will Avery in a long, long time! In fact I barely noticed him when he was here. :) So many bad memories I've tried to bury - Will Avery is one. But now about Darko, Ebi, and the Kandiman? I have Justin Patton among the Wolves I'll try to forget. Or how about Joe Smith? Actually, he was a decent player even though he fell far short of him promise as the #1 pick. It's the illegal deal, that taints his memory.
I agree with you that it was probably the Wolves who developed Billups. I recall Flip in an interview talking about how Billups was fantastic in practice, which he then said was what you usually see in a young player just before he breaks through as a player in actual games. But alas, the Wolves failing was poor player personnel judgment letting him walk while relying on the obviously brittle Terrell Brandon.

This is impossible. Big men that don't shoot 3's simply have no value. Sorry.

Lip I saw today that Wolfson mentioned on twitter that Ronzone LOVED your guy Paul George in that draft. Had you heard that one before? Maybe I had but I don't remember for sure.
Ebi was a spectacular whiff of a draft pick. I remember reading the book about the HS to pro players and there was some stuff about him. If I remember right it sounded like the bright lights of the league got to him and he just wasn't smart enough to get it. I was thinking about the Darko era Friday and really trading for him wasn't a terrible gamble but what we know now the convincing him to play with that contract was. One thing I've always given Kahn credit for is the guy absolutely went for some high upside guys and didn't have to give up much to do it. I wasn't much of a fan of any of the players Darko, Beasley, Anthony Randolph but I thought those were reasonable gambles. In the end I think I would have rather kept Brian Cardinal and Corey Brewer around than Darko and AR. The Beas move...eh it was at least fun while it lasted. I mean that Beas rubbing Anthony Tolliver GIF has to be worth at least one 2nd round pick right?!? Lol
I just looked up Terrell Brandon's stats. Unbelieveable. He didn't play a single NBA game after Billups went to the Pistons. If you are sick about that imagine how Flip and McHale felt. Fortunately for that season they signed Rod Strickland and also signed Hudson for cheap. Those guys really did do some good stuff getting some good play out of various types of guys. Again...history says we are gonna screw up this PG thing letting go of the wrong guy and/or someone getting a debilitating injury.

Woj bomb:
Agent Rich Paul has notified the New Orleans Pelicans that All-NBA forward Anthony Davis has no intention of signing a contract extension if and when presented and that he has requested a trade, Paul told ESPN on Monday.

With the news of Anthony Davis requesting a trade, the Wolves should go after Jrue Holiday fast and in a hurry.

Don't think they will trade Davis now. Celtics can't obtain Davis this regular season they have to wait until the offseason. So I would guess the pelicans wait till the offseason to blow up their team

Well we knew this was likely to happen and here it is. It will be interesting to see what path NO decides to take. Full rebuild trading everything that isn't young or get everything they can for AD and keep some of the pieces they have and see what happens. Also Even if they don't move AD this season they know what the situation is so if someone gives them an offer for an expiring player etc before the deadline they can make an informed decision.
So if we are going after Holiday what are we really offering? I would guess the price would be pretty high as well it should be.

Any deal for holiday is going to start with wiggs + multiple firsts.
We won't give up kat and nothing else has any value to the pels.

Re: Around the League
You guys are being mean to me.
Ebi. Avery. Olowakandi. Even Troy Hudson annoyed the hell out of me (I believe he passed out of the PnR 6 times in his career... and took a 21 foot jumper out of it 21,976 times.)
I lived (and died) with all those names.
But the Ndudi Ebi pick stung even more because (1) it was the only pick during the Joe Smith-inspired draft exile years (2) he was chosen almost entirely because of the way he "competed" vs. James in an AAU game... which James lit him up in (3) the Wolves were a playoff team and Josh Howard was considered NBA ready out of college by many and sitting there waiting...
And yet Garnett stuck around for as long as he did... meanwhile today's stars are unhappy with an All Star guard (Holiday) and 20/9 guy (Randle) next to them and demand trades (and get praised for it by many).

I'm quite positive that you don't include a negative asset when trading for an All-Star player.
I'd start with Teague, Bates-Diop, and a protected first-round pick.
