I have a feeling they want a starter and a 1st, like Covington who fits that team well. Assuming they are entertaining the 3 team trade scenario.
My thinking aligns with yours, Apollo.
I think Covington absolutely makes the most sense for the Warriors. I would do that, but I would not include Culver, Okogie or a future 1st. To match salaries, we'd need to include Tyus (sign-and-trade) or Teague along with RoCo.
Ideally, we'd swap Wiggins but I'd only give up one 1st round pick and it would have to be lottery protected. If that's not enough, then so be it. I'm ready to move on from Russell.

I would do Wiggins and a first-round pick. I would not give Golden State Covington.
I think the Warriors got Russell as a quality piece to get them through the Klay injury recovery year and then they'll trade him next summer for multiple pieces to go around Steph/Klay/Draymond/Looney. The main problem being the piece they are missing in that comp is a defensive wing who can shoot 3's which is the hardest thing to get in this league. Next summer would you guys trade Covington, G and a protected first round pick for him? That gives them the 3 and D wing they need. A depth big in G that's expiring and they recuperate one first round pick. Do people still want Russell? I do but I get it if people are out on him now.

Tough call on Covington. Covington only played 35 games last season because of injuries. That knee injury that kept him out the last two months of the season still seems a bit of a mystery to me and gives me pause. With one exception, he hasn't played more than 70 games. He hasn't been a picture of durability. And he turns 29 years old this season. On the other hand, he's a terrific defender and very good 3-point shooter on a very team-friendly contract. And by all accounts a great teammate as well.
I'd definitely prefer trading Wiggins and a future lottery-protected 1st. It's a very close call for me when it comes to Covington. In any event, I don't see a deal materializing. Based on reports I've read, it appears the Wolves front office was taken entirely off guard by the Warriors deal. So I don't think Russell signing with the Warriors was part of an unstated plan to eventually move him to the Wolves. And I suspect Rosas has a bit more apprehension over Russell after what transpired. I know I do and I've always had reservations about Russell. Interestingly apparently the Suns passed on Russell out of concern about the influence he'd have on his friend Booker. Sometimes the best deals are the one you don't make. Perhaps fate finally intervened on behalf of the Wolves and saved them from tying themselves to another failed max contract.
i Don't think Curry is a bad defender. Does GS "hide" him? Sure why wouldn't you? Do you want Curry guarding player X when he an just stand and help off a guy that's basically just a shooter? Klay's strength is point of attack stick on his guy defense. He is like the opposite of Covington. Meanwhile Curry is a guy that's better floating around a bit. In addition Curry has a pretty strong base. If he gets switched onto a big he can put up enough resistance to hold up for help or at least make the guy work. Plus he has good hands so he can poke the ball away. He isn't a good defender but I don't see him as an actual liability.
With Russell now you have 2 guys you have to hide in addition to not having a top defender in Klay. Even when Durant was waning in defense obviously his length gives you more than Russell. Warriors just signed GR3 so they have somebody but my guess is they get another guy also.
As it's been said the Warriors have been able to put score people despite at times letting down defensively. Can they get Russell who has legit SG length to buy in? Will the guys playing Durant's minutes be decent defensively? Will they add another scorer off the bench to get them some buckets while Klay is out (just had surgery today...it was successful!). What's the over under on combined points per game this season for Curry and Russell? Those guys are gonna put up some monster numbers. Meanwhile Ron Adams has his work cut out for him on the other end.
Here is another question...what was the alternative for the Warriors this year?
