Re: Offseason trade/FA forum
Yeah, landing Millsap would be a big freakin' deal for this franchise. He and Beverley would be just perfect complimentary vets to this roster.
Re: Offseason trade/FA forum
To be there was a few things this franchise needed to address going into the offseason and here they are in no particular order.
1. Defense most of us were looking to improve with bigs but any upgrade there was a need
2. Shooting. The Wolves still lacked 3 point shooting.
3. PF or some sort of player next to Towns.
4. Simple talent upgrade.
5. Moves to open up salary flexibility under the Lux tax
6. Cut some dead weight
So what have the Wolves done in these areas?
1. Beverly is a upgrade defensively. The Wolves need more work here but Pat is a tone setter.
2. Beverly is a better 3 point shooter than Rubio and Prince is a big upgrade over Juancho Culver or Layman. His catch and shoot numbers are very good so that's a nice upgrade. The Wolves could still improve here but basically the only poor shooters in line to play minutes are now Okogie and Vanderbilt.
3. Nothing yet but the Wolves also have a roster spot and a little bit of money plus with salary flexibility Vanderbilt returning is likely.
4. I think it's slight and likely for only a year but I think Prince and Beverly is a talent upgrade over Rubio and Juancho. I will mention the jury is out on the 2-way guys but there are chances there plus that 2nd round pick which is another chance to add talent we didn't have before.
5. Rosas has saved money while adding talent and even added a 2nd round pick...instead of giving up a pick. I feel compelled to give him an A+ here.
6. Layman is now basically the only guy that I don't really care what happens to. I still had hope small for guys like Juancho and Culver being worthwhile but moving them for a guy like Beverly seems like a stroke of genius.
So the Wolves still aren't complete but there is still a path to add a player that could help defensively or filling the hole next to Towns. That's basically the only spot left. It's probably asking a lot to actually fill this spot with just a roster spot and a small amount of money and Vanderbilt's situation unresolved but I still think there is a chance to add a solid player here. I'm still in on Isaiah Hartenstein. If we somehow end up with Millsap...well that would be really something.

Good analysis, Monster. I wouldn't give Rosas an A+ for the offseason. But I'd definitely give him a B+ and possibly an A-. If he re-signs Vanderbilt and signs Millsap, then I'll give him a solid A.
I'm with you in still having an interest in Isaiah Hartenstein, even though I'd prefer Millsap at this point. With Juancho and Culver gone, Layman is our last minor trade chip unless Rosas is willing to part with Okogie. I'd keep Okogie as part of the effort to transform this team defensively. With an open roster spot and $4.8M under the luxury tax threshold, I would think we could sign Hartenstein. Bottom line, as you pointed out, is that we still need to add a defensive big to the roster and we now have an open roster spot to do that. As Sundog pointed out, ideally, the Wolves should add a big with size who can provide some rim protection - two things Millsap doesn't provide. But I'll take his savvy vet presence, assuming he still has some game in him. Otherwise, I like the size that Hartenstein and WCS bring, although WCS has never been much of a rim protector.
We could probably swap Layman for WCS as a minor deal to add size. Otherwise, the only potential major deal I'd have an interest in would be a trade for Myles Turner. I think we'd probably have to give up Beasley and a future 1st-round pick to get him - which is what Atlanta apparently wanted for John Collins back in February. I'd be interested in that deal, but I'm not sure whether I'd pull the trigger because of Turner's durability issues and the 3-point firepower Beasley provides.

Personally I would like to hold off giving Rosas an overall grade on the offseason (my A+ was for the move of salary clearing while getting value back instead of paying it) because we have to see what happens with Vanderbilt (and possibly even McLaughlin) as this Beverly deal came out of nowhere. Although a deal with Memphis with all those guards isn't a shock but it was a move other teams made to make this deal happen. That could happen again.
I don't know why Dallas would do the Layman for WCS when they could have just turned down WCS option to begin with. I think there is some sort of move they are contemplating. I'd love it if they valued Jake from State Farm but I think the are more Progressive or maybe Allstate type of team.
I decided I needed to look into Hartenstein more. The good. It seems he is a legit 7' plus guy with shoes and easily over 7" wingspan so he is plenty big. I didn't find his standing reach but I figured you already had that. ;) how excited anyone should be about him squarely lays on if his defensive advanced stats are legit or not. If not he is more like another guy but if those are somewhat real...let's get this guy signed. He had a workout recently for teams to watch and supposedly the Wolves have shown interest. Millsap I feel would be a nice fit for the roster but I would like to add Hartenstein as a possible upside play. Christian wood and Rashaun Holmes are a couple examples of guys that make me want to chase that type of player. It also could mean we have one in Knight. Theis is another guy that brings me hope. I wouldn't mind 2 shots but I will not be complaining about Millsap. I don't think we will be able to offer him enough money so I still consider signing him optimistic. Not a long shot but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Beasley and a protected first round pick is probably a fair price for Turner but because of his injury I just can't do it even though to some extent it makes sense. Even if it was a handful of games if Nowell really blew me away in SL maybe that would make me more willing to take a shot at Turner for Beasley.

Zodiac analysis:
Patrick Beverley 7/12/88 (Dragon Goat Dragon) born similar dragon day and year as Stephan Curry, Chaucey Billup, Coby White and Derrick Rose. People who born the DAYDAY of dragon are very good at what they do (Rosa, CJ McCollum, PJ Tucker, Collin Sexton, Luke Kennard, Kyle Anderson, John Collins, Cam Reddish, Clint Capela, Hassan Whiteside, Trey Burke, Maxi Kleber, Jeff Green, Kyle Lowry, Chris Boucher, Jaesean Tate, ETwaun Moore, Tobias Harris, Bradley Beal, Davis Bertans, Jake Layman, PAUL MILLSAP, draymond Green, and Klay Thompson.) ( Football: tom brady and his coach Bill Belichick 4/16/52 triple dragons and baseball David Ortid).
Anyway, these people or players have a knot of being good because they have characters do what it takes to win and be on top. I had been followed and studied these data since 2000.
Again, Finch (rooster) and Beverley (dragon) are buddies and best friend. Now look at Tom Thibodeau (horse) and Julius Randle (Goat) are best friends, same as Popovich (horse) and Tim Ducan (goat). We saw how good Tim Duncan became and Randle was most improved player of the year. Also, we saw why Rosa (dragon) picked Finch (rooster) as head coach. They are best friends.

I'm just having fun with you new guy. If I could comprehend that stuff it'd probably be very insightful. It's just an assessment that I can't quite get my head around no matter how long I stare at it.

Re: Offseason trade/FA forum
Is Harry Giles still a free agent? Il take a shot at him if he is availble. He is a buy low but high upside guy if he can stay healthy and gain confidence back.
He didnt get to play in portland last year since he played behind Nurk and Kanter at center and roco and melo at pf and they were all reasonably healthy last year.
We gave vando a shot and he became a rotation guy. I feel like Giles has more talent and is a nice fit next to towns or naz.

Re: Offseason trade/FA forum
Monster - Check out these Hartenstein highlights from last season. He has some nice skills. And he's really big. He's tall, but not particularly long. Has a 7'2.25 wingspan and a 9'1 standing reach - both longer measurements than Vanderbilt and good for a PF but not particularly long for a center. What makes him really big is his wide body at 250 pounds. Yet, he's fluid and pretty quick. He's 23 years old and I think he'd be a great free agent signing for the Wolves. The rap on him is that he's kind of a punk. Reportedly, he blames teammates, whines, sulks and has bad body language when things aren't going well. Nevertheless, he's young, talented and importantly, he has nice size that the Wolves really need.
