Spielman is a cockroach.

Rick and Zimmer are fired! It was a mediocre time. But I'm glad it's over.

Ha, the news is finally out! Funny, I checked Zimmer's wiki page yesterday afternoon, and they had him as the "former" coach of the Minnesota Vikings a day before the actual news came out.

Certainly a move for the better, depending on who they bring in.

Maybe.

Obviously, it needed to be done. But I think this team takes a significant step back (even from halfway/sorta decent mediocrity)... how long that lasts remains to be seen.

Zimmer had to go. He had his issues. But there are most definitely NFL head coaches worse than Mike Zimmer.

But isn't change sometimes good for change's sake? Zimmer was there for 8 years and his methods felt a bit stale. I don't think he was a bad coach, but you have to wonder what a fresh pair of eyes and highly motivated new blood could do.

(caveat: I know next to nothing about football coaching and what "good" even looks like)

Q that was a low blow on Zimmer asking for fresh eyes...just kidding but I couldn't help it!

I think Abe makes some good points. They go from mediocrity (which means some level of competence) to now needing to get both the GM and head coach spots right. Will the people they hire be better than the guys they just moved on from? Idk only time will tell.

To me other than the actual hires that are made the QB situation is gonna be interesting. With a completely new group anything is on the table.

Also there is likely no or less ties to the current players so some people could be traded. I hate saying it but a guy like Thielen if you can get some value back in a trade makes sense to move. I think they should consider rebuilding somewhat.

Yeah. Definitely. And that's why I have no problem with the firing.

In fact, it's sorta like the Wiggins situation. He had to go... even if we all could have assumed he'd play better in a different situation. I think we all know Zimmer and/or Spielman have to go.

But we have to be fully aware that the odds of getting guys who are even worse is legitimate. And that's coupled with an aging team without any sign of a QB for the future.

Good coach. Bad coach. The Vikings future hinges on QB play. And right now, the team's long-term prospects at the position have to be among the very worst in the league.

I would like to see Kirk get traded. He's set to make like 45 million next season, which I can't see him playing under. So the option are-

Takes a pay cut and restructuring, stays with Vikes.
Pay cut and restructures AND traded.
Cut.

I see zero chance he plays under that 1 year deal.

As far as what we could get? It's hard to say. I think Stafford was probably thought of by most as a better QB. Detroit got 2 1sts but had to take on Goff. Wentz I think was a 1st and 3rd?

If the Vikes play their cards right I could see a 1st rounder coming back actually. There are a lot of teams looking for an upgrade at the QB spot.

Pittsburgh, Denver, New Orleans, Cleveland, Carolina, Houston and Philly just off the top of my head as potential landing spots. Even Detroit, though trades inside the division don't happen often.
