Ok, everybody. Last chance today to guess the reason behind people's names on the board.
We've got some really good guesses so far, or at least funny ones. Hopefully we can get a few more guesses in. And then tomorrow, I invite everybody to reveal the real reason behind their name, unless, you know, doing so reveals you're in a witness protection program or something.

Re: The Name Game (Ends May 22--Participation Requested)
Ok, thanks for contributing everybody. It's the first day of the playoffs, and the last day of this name game. I saw some funny guesses. And I'm definitely interested to hear the real reason behind the names you use here. I'm seriously interested to know if KiwiMatt is actually an Australian named Jim, which would be nuts. Then we'd have a Tim named Doug and a Matt named Jim. That's halfway to a Dr. Seuss book right there.
Ok, so as for my name. First, thanks to worldK for your, uhhh, confidence in me? Anyway, I'm not that old (44), and I'm not a nudist, but I live in Germany, where (side note) there are a surprising number of nudists, actually. I'm a Wolves fan because I grew up in Minnesota, saw one of the first games in the dome, then basically ignored them until a friend got me into them in 1999-2000, just as I was about to leave the state, for good, it turned out. Ever since then, cheering for this team has weirdly been a way to stay connected to home.
To explain how I got to this name, I'll go back to the beginning. On the ESPN message board I was warneandrew, which was just my last name, Warne, followed by my first name, Andrew. I've thought about switching back just because I don't care to be anonymous for various reasons. Actually, at one point when we were still on the ESPN board, I actually met a step-cousin who happened to visit the board and recognized my name. Crazy. Anyway, one day, I forgot my ESPN password, and I'm such an idiot that I actually wasn't able to reset it, so somehow I had to pick a new name. That's when I became SameOldDrew. Then, at some point relatively recently, Lip referred to Ndudi Ebi (I remember that pick well), but his autocorrect changed it to Nudity Ebi. I found it so hilarious that I had changed my name on the spot--I also liked the idea that it was an homage to one of the board's patriarchs and a nod to our futility as a franchise and all the guys who didn't make it in the league, who I think typically make for some of the more interesting stories. For a couple days I was SameOldNudityEbi, but I figured I had to keep part of my name in there, so it became SameOldNudityDrew. And there you have it.
Anybody else? I'd be interested to hear the real reason behind some of these names.

This was a fun thanks for sharing!
Re: The Name Game (Ends May 22--Participation Requested)
So my screen name is a combo of 2 nicknames I received when I was younger. Monster and Pile. Pile was a nickname that was kinda dumb people basically only said it because it rhymed with my name.
Monster was a nickname given to me by a high school staff member that I also worked for 4 years. That guy was pretty good at every freaking sport. I haven never seen anyone do a drop kick as effortlessly as he did. We became pretty good friends talking sports and all kinda of other stuff. He did fantasy football leagues back when we were actually doing a big board and picking players. Points were kept track on a spreadsheet on a computer. He passed away a few months after Flip died and he was also 60.
Back to the nick name: We were playing pickup basketball early on in my freshman year and I was rebounding balls and generally flying around everywhere. I lived out in the country growing up and so I played a lot of basketball by myself on our little basketball court outside so I was always rebounding my own shots so basically I went after the ball if there was any chance I could get my hands on it. So that was the night I was given the name "MONTER!" for my performance on the court. It was an apt name for some of the way I played most team sports too so people called me it pretty often. It stuck with me through college. I have at least one friends that calls me that to this day when we see each other.
When I made my first email address in the mid-90's I decided to put monster and pile together because...well it was kinda funny and I had already tried out a few other combinations that were already taken. I decided to just carry it though for some screen names also. So for years I have had this somewhat silly screen name and my most used email address. A year or 2 ago I was going to switch up my email address at least for the place I volunteer for but it's a pain to switch over so I didn't. I have like 35 other Gmail addresses though. Lol

My screen name was developed to ensure people could tell me apart from all the imposter SP's.

Yes you got it right, my names Matt and I'm from New Zealand (not Jim from Australia). I'm 35 and live in Christchurch. Spent time living and working in Canada and Australia. Became a Wolves fan in 2000 after watching KG play at the Sydney Olympics. Loved his intensity and aura. 21 years later and I'm still a sucker for punishment!

It was 1994 and I would get high in the dark room of graphic arts class then sneak over to the computer lab and log on to the ESPN Basketball message board which in that era was one single scrolling board where everyone talked about every team. My name has been the Doper since.

Wally Szczerbiak was my favorite wolves player back when I first discovered and joined the espn wolves board. Wally world was his nickname. My name is Kelvin and I just decided to combine the two, hence worldk.
Re: The Name Game (Ends May 22--Participation Requested)
My screen name was my corporate ID for a company called Computer Associates that I worked for for 6-7 years through the late 90s.
Around that time I joined the ESPN board using leado01.....then followed many of you here.
Some of you I've known longer than many of my close friends....and my college aged children! I may have set near some of you at games...but I've never met any of you but I'm open for a beer!
