Hey everybody is entitled to their opinion. Saying he sucks at basketball seems like you have some other agenda though.
Not unlike ur hate mongering for KG I suppose. That certainly seems agenda driven.

Can we change the title of this thread to the "Piss And Moan About All of This"?
;-)

: ) !
I get why people are frustrated. We're a crappy team, and we've been crappy for years. And I've been on this board (well, ESPN before that) for 12-13 years now, so I know how it can be a forum for people to complain (myself included).
I actually thought Thad was pretty good, and I'm wary about whether KG will be a positive or alienating influence (intensity=good, assholery=bad), but I'm fine with this trade. It's not that big a deal basketball-wise in the bigger picture, and bringing KG back to the organization might have some long-term intangible positives if he can evolve into a respected retired player like Bill Russell. My fear is that he'll turn out to be more like a Jordan type of guy, mean and petty, and that could actually hurt the organization's culture if he sticks around in the front office or as a coach.
If I'm Flip, as soon as KG's playing days are done (and maybe before), I'm getting KG signed up for a Buddhist meditation class ASAP and hooking him up with some of Beasley's old Minnesota contacts to chill him out a bit.

Drew, you bring up an excellent comparisson with jordan on the wizards. He was part owner as well and he was supposed to teach the kids how to play and win. They didnt win with him and the players he played with didnt become better players. (Kwame brown guys).
Im not sure how kg with his very diminished skills and game, dirty antics and trash talking and cursing a storm will help the young guys.
If he tone it down and act as a savy and respectful vet who share his wisdom with the young guys and reach them instead of droping the f word everytime he speaks then it might work. He has won a championship, been the mvp and dpoy and is one of the all time greats. But he has also been part of some crappy teams and the nets team this year got blown out quite a few times. So, its not a certain that he will be a good mentor and help the young guys in a positive way. Thats what we are hoping for but theres no way of it being a certain.

Not that I think Martin is a bad player and I want him gone, but I don't understand why he wasn't dealt. Look ah what Afflolo brought in. Martin is a better version. I would have been fine with the other moves had we been able to flip him. We got older. The goal is to move the older assets to contenders and pick up young guys to build for the future. This team is two or three years away yet from competing in the west.
I think the problem with the coach being the GM is the coach always wants to win now. The GM has to look down the road and build for the future. It seems like Flip the coach was looking towards now instead of the future.

I use the F word. I've used it on here. I love the NHL and see those players use it as some type of global language that seems to be a fit in any circumstance. But for some reason, KG's use always rankled me more than usual. It is usually preceded by "Mother" and seems to be almost a motivational tool for him. It's hypocritical for me to call him out for it, but it adds to this non-intelligent persona he has in my eyes. Kids have to see that and learn the wrong way because of it. So I wish that KG and myself could see the negative aspects of our actions and clean it up.

Bah. I look at it this way:
1.) KG even at age 38 is better than Thad Young in his current prime. So we just improved short term.
2.) Because Thad played so poorly this year, he was certain to "opt in" next year meaning we'd be on the hook for another $10M for next year. KG will likely re-sign for a significantly less than that. That's another "win" for next year.
3.) This team's biggest weaknesses this year have been: Toughness/Defense/Rebounding/Length. KG should help in all of those areas. Think of KG as the new Turiaf except he'll actually play 10-15 minutes/game instead of being hurt all the time.
4.) Getting rid of Thad frees up more minutes for Bennett and Payne. Maybe one of those guys pans out. Maybe they don't. But it only makes sense to give them extended looks in what is a lost season. That wouldn't happen if Thad was still here.
So there you have it. I just hope we don't instantly become too good and lose out on that top 5 pick - lol!

I understand all that. Why keep Martin? I know he is a good player, but he cuts into minutes Muhammed and LaVine get. He could have got some nice assets in return as well. That one sort of baffles me.
Bottom line we sort of need to tank. We need a top 5 pick from this draft. We need another elite talent on this team to compete in the tough west for years.

I'm only guessing...but I assume we kept Martin because:
1.) We couldn't find a good deal that made sense
2.) Martin actually has value to this team (scorer, floor spacer/3 point shooter and very good at the line)
3.) They can still deal Martin this off season or next year if the right deal comes along.
This is Flip's remix of a blended roster (vets and youth). We're still slanted heavy on youth, but most teams still keep a couple vets around for leadership i.e. Pek, Martin & Garnett.
