After beating OKC with Gobert being our most impactful player, there sure was a lot of re-hashing about the merits of that trade. What a bunch of horse manure! From a basketball point of view for this season (and actually the next three seasons after this one), any arguments against the trade are lame. You can argue about the assets given up after the four years were too much. And I suppose you can lament about not building a home grown champion contender, like our front office cheated or something. But we are in for some rock solid basketball for a long time to come!
While Ant and KAT left a few things to be desired, they really had a lot of very good stretches of basketball against OKC. And I think it's a travesty we have not had more discussion about how good McDaniels looks this year in just one game, and that is despite him missing all 3 of his 3-pointers. The Gobert/Daniels combination is awesome. And Edwards defense continues to be good. That is going to be what gives this team a chance to win every night. And when a combination of KAT, DLO and the bench are on, we will be very tough to beat.
But lets get by this trap game first, and keep developing that chemistry.
Ok Tim, let's claim the Gobert trade a huge success after one game. Not only just one game, but a game against a terrible team with absolutely no inside presence. Good argument. By this logic we should cut both Kat and Ant after that one game performance. My argument was never against Gobert the player, my argument was that we should have saved our assets for a potentially better fit. Now we have no way to upgrade on Dlo if someone better becomes available. Decent bigs are pretty dime a dozen in the league now days, and therefore pretty cheap. Obviously Gobert is at the top of this list, but I feel like people on here don't really understand value and opportunity cost very well. We'd better hope that Ant and Dlo (haha) pan out, because we spent all of our assets on making a position of strength even stronger while we knew that starting PG was suspect at best. I like gobert and I hope it's works out, but it's not what I would have done and I think it's crazy to claim it a success after one game. Once we win a playoff series I'll be the first to claim it a decent trade and when we make the WCF I'll claim it a success... until then please don't make me laugh :)
