Good deal for dallas. They are a franchise who prefers to add players via trade instead of free agency.

I did not want Wood. Wood is a good shot blocker, rebounder and has range but I've heard he's has a low BB IQ. I guess Houston would rather build around Sengun and Garuba. He turns the ball over a lot. He takes a lot of free throws and misses a lot. His defense is kind of mediocre.

I did think it would take more than that to acquire Wood. He isn't a perfect player but he is a good one and a nice upgrade for Dallas. As much as I would like to have added him to the Wolves roster I might have hesitated to give up #19 to get him in a deal (aside from any other matching salary to make the deal work) because Wood could walk after this season and if he didn't he would cost a decent chunk of money. The first round pick will be fairly cheap. Still if that's all it took to get Christian Wood I wonder if there are some other players that may be attainable for something lower than I would expect. Houston is completely rebuilding though dealing Wood at some point just made sense.

This may sound weird but I wouldn't be surprised if Houston saw Chriss as a minor asset in this deal. He is about to turn 25 and has been productive in his last 2 stops for playoff teams. I'm not saying he is a future starter but he could be a depth guy and finding cheap guys like that is worthwhile.

For the Mavs this also clears a bunch of roster spots.

I love your optimism and where you went with this!

I'll also add that this also leaves Dallas as a team with no draft picks. Maybe they are a team that wants to get in on someone in the 2nd round and will give up a future 2nd.

They also need to add win-now talent for Luka and Wood would upgrade anything they have considering they don't have many avenues to add talent.

It surprised me, too. But that just tells me there are lots of important things we don't know about Christian Wood. Houston must have explored the market for Wood and this deal with Dallas tells us what Wood's market value was. On the surface, that value turned out to be significantly lower than I thought it was. But the market is what it is and it likely reflects a lot of inside information we don't have.

That's a good take, KG.

Looks like Gobert might be headed to the Hawks in exchange for Capella, Collins and the #16 pick. That would be a great haul for the Jazz!

One of the things I wondered even going back to the trade deadline was did the league in general consider Wood a center or a PF? Based on what the Rockets got back I would say maybe teams considered Wood more of a C. If so that would lower his value.

I kinda doubt this was the case but maybe at this point the Rockets knew they wanted to move on and also figured they could send Wood to a good situation while doing so. They got a worthwhile asset for him in the pick and added no salary beyond this year and will have some expiring contracts available to maybe make another deal where a team wants to get out of a longer term contract and will pay to do so.

I think that's a bad deal for ATL, I would love to add Gobert but not sure we have the pieces or salary match to make it happen.
