I would try my best to offload hermangomez or culver and offer portis the full mid level at 4 years and 41million.
(I think that's what it comes out to over 4 years)

Yeah, they are going to see a lot of zone and packed defenses. God, I hope they fail. Hate this ring-chasing B.S. So glad the Bucks won the title and Giannis hammered home the point of doing it the hard way.

I still think its a longshot though

Are we overrating Portis? I loved the role he played on the Bucks, but historically I think he's had issues defensively. Sometimes these guys look great playing in certain situations on a star-studded team and then they cash in on a bigger deal only to fall kind of flat on a different team. I'd worry about that with him. Yes, he would have been a bargain at last year's price. Not sure what he'd cost now.

After Westbrook deal, the Lakers are at about $128M with 6 players (cap is $112M), 2 of those guys won't even play in Luol Deng and McKinnie. How can they sign anyone like Derozan? Not sure they get mid-level??? And is Derozan going to take a vet min deal? I can't see that in any way shape or form.

Q I agree I still don't feel confident in Portis as a starter. Cool has watched him more than anyone here so I do like that he had no hesitation in saying he would offer him the full midlevel. I think that MIGHT end up being an overpay especially if it ended up being 3 or 4 years.

That's the rub, right?

Isn't it time the Wolves find the hidden value gem and let somebody else pay top dollar for guys with spotty and inconsistent track records?

You might remember that I was advocating for the Wolves to sign Portis last year. I was thinking a 1 or 2 year deal at $5-6M per year. I still like him, but I'm not sure I'd pay him the full MLE, which I believe is around $9M per year on a multi-year deal. I'm with Monster in not having a lot of confidence in Portis as a starter. He has a bit of a a loose screw between his ears and I'd be cautious. And as Q noted, he's had defensive issues from time to time. I'd do a sign-and-trade with the Bucks - Juancho straight up for Portis.

I think it would be have to be more appealing than Juancho, the fan base loves Portis and he's capable of changing a game for that team when he gets hot. I think Portis would be a nice addition as long as he's not punching teammates but he opted out of MIL, either to get paid coming off a championship and 47% three point shooting season or to start some place else. MN could offer both and he would fit rather well in my opinion he could move the needle enough to make it worthwhile.

I think you might be right, $9M is probably too much. But he's going to get at least $6M on the open market I like him for the Wolves because he brings that element we never have: toughness, grit, and maybe just a little bit crazy. We get pushed around too much and Bobby along with Vando would change that. Plus, Bobby can play. And he can shoot. And he would bring a championship pedigree. And we need his position. We should definitely kick the tires if the Bucks can't bring him back.

FWIW Bobby Marks says the most the Bucks can pay Portis is 5.6 million.

Lip the idea of the Bucks doing a sign and trade Portis for Juancho is funnier than the Cavs trading Nance for Rubio! :)
