Average numbers for a team everyone was picking to be below average. Our early schedule may have had a lot to do with it in spite of all the road games.

Also worth noting that those offensive numbers include playing 2 games without Towns and 4 games without a PG. If we stay middle of the road defensively that would be a pretty big win. I think there is an actual chance we do that. offensively we will be better than 20th.

While true, it also includes Andrew Wiggins playing out of his mind for half of that stretch and Karl-Anthony Towns being the best player in the NBA for the first three games of the year. So, take that for what it's worth.

I agree that if the team defense can continue to perform at or around this level that it would be a big win. The biggest contributors to these improvements on the court are Robert Covington, Treveon Graham, Josh Okogie, and Towns.

I mentioned it a few times before, but the Wolves have never been worse than the #12 rated offense since KAT was a rookie. So I have to believe that as they continue to adjust to the new offense and guys like RoCo regains his shooting stroke, we start to see an uptick in our O Rating.

The defensive rating is encouraging, especially considering how hot guys get against us. We have had horrible luck in terms of opposing players making long 2s and contested 3s against us. If there is some regression to the mean in this area, we just might have something.

(then again, we have played mostly Eastern Conference teams to start the year. We may be in for a rude awakening over these next 10 games).

I would say offensively speaking, the Wolves are 28th in the league in 3P% at 30.8%. I think that will go up some for sure, hopefully into the closer to 34% range which would still below avg. I don't think the 3P% stays where it is at bottom 3. Though they are taking some borderline bad shots at times. Several feet behind the arc, etc. Last season they finished at 35% but on much less attempts. So I do think overall scoring goes up.

The Wolves shoot the third-most threes in the league and make them at the third-worst percentage. I think this a problem of personnel and coaching. We have bad shooters on the roster chucking from deep and they probably shouldn't be at the rate that they are. A grand total of four players on the roster that average 1.0 3PA per game are making them at a percentage greater than 35.0% -- and one of them is Keita Bates-Diop who rarely plays.

For now... I'm chalking it up more to personnel.

They're getting the looks, many of them wide open. The wrong guys are shooting them for sure. But that's where Rosas comes in. It's up to him to bring in guys who can make them even remotely close to league average.

I agree on the personnel. It's also a guy like Graham even after a hot game (for him this year lol) is shooting 18% from 3. Teague and Napier have missed a number of games but hey are shooting well below their expected 3 point percentages too.

Wolves are 6th in FT attempts and yet like 21st in FTs made because guys are missing them. Getting to the line is a big thing I like to see.

I have no idea if Ryan will ultimately prove to be a good NBA coach. But what i don't understand is how some could have so much patience with Thibs, and then so little with what Ryan is doing. Ryan will be the Wolves coach through at least the end of next season. That's just a fact. Can we not rush to judgment before this plays out a little?

Just from my point of view, for me Thibs had NBA success before so I was patient with him even though it was hard to watch at times, while Ryan sort of got the job because he was part of the country club (Not saying he cant do a good job).

I think the roster is not set up for this style of play (that is on Rosas and the leftovers from Thibs), and I think Ryan has the perfect temperament to be a very good NBA head coach. I do think some of the complaining especially from me comes from when shit went bad on the court under Thibs it was 100% fault and now when the wolves struggle it is a roster construction problem and the players problem and Ryan gets no blame what so ever.

Is it petty, probably a little bit, but I do have concerns about Ryan but I really think he has the potential to succeed and think he will make it, but doesn't mean I can't bitch in the meantime when I feel like he does a poor job in game coaching

Pretty much.

He's so young. And this team needs so much change with personnel to fit the clear system they want... that any real assessment of the kid will take time.

Here's the thing... he will mistakes. That should be expected from a young, green coach (or any coach, really). He just needs to make fewer and fewer of them. And show a skill for connecting with players.

We'll find out. Eventually.

Yeah, that's the way i see it. I still think this team will be better the 2nd half of the season, which bodes well for our playoff chances. But you're right, progress is the key.
