Re: Game Report - Wolves v. Spurs
Lip, I'd like to open a class action suit against Thibs for inflicting emotional distress upon his fanbase. Part of the suit would require the Wolves to refund season ticket holders a pro-rated amount based on the number of games Jimmy played for the Wolves this season.
You see Abe, you gotta know what buttons to push with Lip.
(oh, just throwin' this out there Lip.....On my way to work today I went through the McDonalds drive thru for a cup of coffee. Whilst exchanging the money for said coffee, me and the drive thru attendant got our wires crossed and the coffee spilled onto the pavement between my car window and drive thru window. HOWEVER, a little bit of it brushed my left elbow on the way down and it hasn't stopped hurting ever since. I even have to use the opposite arm for my computer mouse, sheesh! Ya think I got something here? It's one of those recently remodeled McDonalds, so I think the franchisee is loaded! I could really use the money for the holidays......)

Re: Game Report - Wolves v. Spurs
Rose's contract demands will be interesting for sure though. He's just been a roster hunter the past couple years because he needs to play to get his Adidas money. That's why a minimum deal was so easy and fast to work out with him. But before that he also was expecting a max deal to come his way when he clearly wasn't a max player anymore after the injuries. Will he stay the latter and take a reasonable offer or go back to old Rose expecting to get paid if he can stay healthy. He's been fairly good for us so far dating back to the playoffs last year. It will be very ineferesting to see which direction this goes.
Re: Game Report - Wolves v. Spurs
Good question, Kahn's. I love what Rose is doing for the Wolves. He's clearly one of our top three players along with KAT and RoCo. But I've expressed my concern already about how important he's become to this team. My main concern in that regard has been his durability issues. But another concern is whether he'll agree to a reasonable deal to stay here.

Just a question, if there was a gaeuntee that he wouldn't get hurt and he keeps at this pace. How much would you legit pay him. Completely honest it is a great problem to have, i'm just curious on what people would actually pay him

Is Thibs still the coach?
This goes back to the Rubio debate a couple of years ago... a guy like Thibodeau likes a certain type of lead guard, based on his track record. Rose fits that model.
But if a new coach is here next season... he may not a Rose-type player leading the way.

lipoli390 wrote:Two points. First, the appeal relates to a civil trial, which means there is absolutely no risk of Rose going to jail if he loses the appeal. It would simply mean he COULD end up paying money damages to his accuser. Second, it's highly unlikely Rose will lose this appeal. Appellate judges rarely overturn jury verdicts. And reading the comments of that one judge tells me the accuser's lawyers don't have any legitimate basis for overturning the jury's decision. That was an unusually definitive statement from a judge in oral argument.
Here's another thought about this. None of us can possibly know what did or didn't happen between Rose and the accuser. But its really unfair to Rose if we allow the accuser's allegations to taint our view of him. As we all know, we start with a presumption of innocence in this Country. That's not just a dinner-party phrase, it's a core principle that defines who we are as Americans. Moreover, beyond the presumption of innocence, Rose has actually been found innocent by a jury of his peers who heard all the evidence and arguments. Note that I used the phrase "found innocent" rather than "not guilty." That was deliberate. This was a civil trial, which means the standard of proof was a simple "more likely than not" standard. In others words, the jury found it more likely than not that Rose did not do what he was accused of doing.
By now you've probably figured out I'm a lawyer. So I'll add another point. The jury took 15 minutes to decide the case. Trial lawyers know that when a jury makes a decision that quickly, it usually means the case was really one-sided - i.e., not a close case.
So let's move on and enjoy the season. And let's celebrate the player and person we all see in Derrick Rose, free from the cloud of allegations that were rejected by a group of people (the jury) who heard all the evidence and found him innocent.
There's a risk of a criminal trial if he is found liable in a civil court. No decision has been made yet whether to proceed with criminal charges. The pressure would certainly be great if he is found liable in a civil court.

It's a good point Abe. I'll also add that Rubio basically had a career year (up to that point) playing for Thibs.
If Rose was gonna he healthy for 3 years and played at a good level (even with some drop off in shooting) the rest of the year...idk man I have to think about that. Whatever I come up with it's gonna be a lot more than I was expecting g to have to mull a couple months ago and I thought there was a chance he would be a worthwhile player for this team beyond this season when he resigned.

No more than $3-4M per year. I think even if he has a completely healthy year (and don't forget he has had to sit out a couple games) it's not enough to assuage the fears of execs that his injury issues may come back. Also, I have to believe there is a ceiling on the number of minutes he can play, so you are really talking about paying for a 6th or 7th man at best. Also, he's a defensive liability, like many other bench scorers, albeit not nearly as bad as Crawford.
Re: Game Report - Wolves v. Spurs
Some context for the question of what you would pay Rose especially if you had this hypothetical guarantee he would stay healthy and productive. Any of these options sound like a bargain at this point. It makes me feel like we might avoid dumping way too much money into him because we can't.

Minnesota has Derrick Rose's "Early Bird Rights."
Without cap space, these are the exception options to re-sign him:
Early Bird - up to $8.799M per, must be at least 2 yrs
Midlevel - up to $9.246M per
Bi-Annual - up to $3.619M per
Minimum - $2.561M per ($1.619M against cap)
