You're really not understanding this process, which is odd.

LeBron James holds all the cards. He can choose whatever team in the league he wants to go to whether they can sign him outright as a free agent or in a trade. Still with me?

Should LeBron James decide the team he wants to go to is Boston, then that's it. There will be no other suitors for him. Teams will not "give up a hell of a lot more than that" to get him. Why? Because why give up anything of value to get LeBron -- or any other marquee player -- when you know he's going to leave just months later to Boston (in this case) since he has made it known he wants to play for them.

LeBron's play would be to opt into the remaining year of his contract and then demand a trade to Boston in which the Cavaliers would happily oblige as to not lose him for absolutely nothing. And really, the Cavs could do much worse than Gordon Hayward/Marcus Morris/1st -- like losing him to free agency. This is not a new tactic in the NBA. Chris Paul did something similar last year going from LA to Houston. Shit, LeBron was traded from Cleveland to Miami after The Decision for two first-round picks and two second-round picks. The only difference in this scenario is that it wouldn't be a sign-and-trade and LeBron would be eligible to sign a max extension in the following season.

The point is, once LeBron makes up his mind (in this hypothetical, it's the Celtics), then it becomes a matter of Boston just matching contracts and throwing an asset at Cleveland for their trouble. It will be a one-team market for LeBron once his decision is made. Is that a little bit more comprehensive?

I said when the deadline deal between LA and Cleveland happened that it was a favor by LA to pave the way for a Lebron sign and trade to LA. I'm 100% Lebron is a Laker and the Cavs get some young talent for the who process. It will be the last piece so LA can sign a bunch of useless contracts to make the salaries work similar to that Chris Paul bullshit last summer. Ultimately it should be tampering but the League ain't going to do shit.

I don't think this is how it'll go even if LeBron does choose the Lakers. Two things would have to be in place prior to that decision: Paul George putting pen to paper and signing with LA, and an impending Kawhi Leonard trade that is agreed upon but not finalized. LeBron James would then sign as a free agent, therefore Cleveland would get nothing from him going there.

I personally don't see why San Antonio would help facilitate this big three, however. They should sit on their hands and not trade Kawhi to LA until all the marquee free agents have signed and other cards have fallen. There is no rush for them to get that deal done and in turn their patience could prevent another contender in the Western Conference.

Irving knows that the Celtics tried to trade him for Kawaii at the deadline, I feel like he wants out. If Lebron wants to go to Boston and they try to put together framework on a Kyrie for Lebron deal I see Irving having no interest in going back to Cleveland. No way he wants to go to a bad team in a small market let alone having Lebron's franchise legacy on your back. We're one of the handful of teams Kyrie listed as being interested in mainly because of he and Jimmy being buds. We send Wiggins to Cleveland, Lebron to Boston, and Irving to Minnesota. Add what you will in other players to fill out any salary issues and we're good!!!

So LeBron goes to the Lakers. Boston has an easy route to the finals. And we struggle to make the playoffs again. Maybe harder now.
