Share Your Trade Ideas
Re: Share Your Trade Ideas
If we trade g it has to be for two pieces in return as I see it. I don't trust Belly's health so we still would need some sort of serviceable big to go along with a wing we acquired. It's a tough spot. We have to hope some team is super desperate.

That trade idea comes from Bleacher Report's Dan Favale. I still prefer a deal for Kent Bazemore, but I'd be all about that trade too. I've name-dropped DeMarre Carroll here numerous times and his fit would be almost as seamless. He'd take the lion's share of both backup forward minutes.
Joe Harris is also a nice get in this trade. 10 PPG in just under 25 MPG isn't tremendous, but his TS% of .603 is damn good any way you slice it. Gives us another much-needed and more efficient [than Jamal Crawford] perimeter shooter.
It also doesn't rock the boat too much. The Gorgui Dieng crowd can take a breath. He lives another day.
Projected Rotation:
PG: Teague / Jones
SG: Butler / Harris
SF: Wiggins / Carroll
PF: Gibson / Carroll
C: Towns / Dieng
I think it's a mistake to trade a first round pick for backups given a first round pick should give us that backup and could develop into someone even better. Every year we seemingly see later 1st round picks be contributors and it's time we find ours in Patton and whoever we take this year. We need those rookie deals as we move forward with a more expensive team. That pick is gonna be in the low 20's if not slightly lower (I think it's at 19 right now) which would have given us a shot at John Collins, OG, and Kuzma this year. Dejonte Murray the year before. Delon Wright, Larry Nance Jr, and Tyus the year before that along with a multitude of 2nd round picks that have been misjudged. The needle just doesn't move far with an in-season move for a backup to justify trading a first round pick. Keep the pick and use the MLE to get that wing and go into next year with a ton of depth. We'll be more ready to do some serious contending in another year anyway with another year of experience and continuity with an already really solid team.

Agreed with everything you said Kahn's. If we are not adding close to All star talent I do not want to make any trade. Especially involving the 1st.
Our team is about to get real expensive real fast. Next year wiggins max kicks in, Kat and Tyus are up for extensions (would be huge cap wise if Kat didn't make all star/all nba team). Belly is going to become a free agent. Also one season away from butler getting a boost in pay.
The cap situation is going to become hell in 2 years. We can't afford to be paying bench players 15+ mil to pay 20 minutes max. If we are going to continue to close the gap with the Warriors for years to come we need to continue to build with young cheap talent. If we don't we become the cavs where they have to rely on old expensive talent (Korver, Wade, Frye, Jones, rose, JR smith).

I'd probably agree with you if we weren't acquiring a starting level player (in these hypothetical trades) that's being utilized off the bench. It's an aggressive move, no doubt, but lifting up your bench is necessary to contend. That 19-22 year old rookie is realistically two to three years away from making an impact whereas we need that punch right now and moving forward.
Kind of reminds me of the situation Golden State was in before they acquired Andre Iguodala. Their starting five was set with Curry, Thompson, Barnes, Lee, and Bogut. They had capable bigs off the bench in Green and O' Neal with Blake leading the second unit. They had a glaring hole at SG/SF, however, with Jo. Crawford as the next best wing on that team, which was far from ideal at the time. That Iggy addition made them more complete, more versatile, and overall a lot better. I'm not comparing our front office to theirs, but teams making the leap from playoff team to contender can be a bit more aggressive with their moves because it's win-now mode. We're playing elite basketball. If this brand of basketball continues, then we're in that launch pad ready to take off.
Also, we have some developmental guys on the team already -- Patton, Georges-Hunt. That draft pick isn't going to get any minutes on the big league team for a while.

The Wolves nice stretch has provided room for patience.
Belinelli (or Dudley) will be here soon enough...

I've been against any major deals all season. But my view has been reinforced by this nice stretch we've been on. Things are clearly coming together for this current group. I think it's best to allow that development to continue uninterrupted. I'd like to see us add another piece at the vet minimum if the right player becomes available via being released yet this season. Otherwise, I'd stand pat unless we can get a player who would help without giving up our a future 1st or someone currrently in our rotation.
I don't see us getting Belinelli this season without giving up a pick or rotation player because his contract expires after this season, which means the Hawks have no incentive to trade him without getting a pick or good young player in return. He's someone we might consider signing with our MLE this next summer.
Dudley would be a nice acquisition and I see some possibility of getting him - perhaps in exchange for Cole and possibly a future 2nd rounder. Dudley would have to consent to the deal and he'd have to assume he wouldn't get many minutes here. He likes Phoenix, but he's not getting a lot of minutes there. So perhaps he'd be willing to accept minimal playing time here knowing that we're looking like an upper tier playoff team.

Dudley is a guy i've always loved for this team. He's a smart player that can shoot (!). Gives us some Bjelly insurance in that he can play the 4 or some 3. I don't think we'd miss a beat if Bjelly got hurt again and Dudley took his spot in the rotation (in fact, he might even be an upgrade in some ways).
Otherwise, I kind of agree that you don't really mess with what's working....Things have taken a real positive turn starting with that 1 point Portland win a few weeks ago.

In my 20 years as a Wolves year I think this is the first January I've had where I'm not racking my brain with hypothetical trade scenarios. Things must be on the rise!
With the way this team is coming together I just don't see the need for any player movement. There's only really two players that I see as potentially looking at moving - Cole Aldrich and Bazz Muhammad. But both provide depth at their respective positions.
We don't want to take on any long term contracts with Towns and Butlers extensions looming.

Ha, well said. I agree.....except for my Dudley fixation.

I have the same fixation. Fortunately, Dudley doesn't have a long-term deal. He has one season left on his contract at $10 million after this one.
