Re: Wolves@Brooklyn - GDT
So, on the way back home before this storm hits.
This was rough. The things that will keep us from glory reared their ugly heads tonight. The Nets made 14 3's and had they shot more of them this game would have been a blowout. The Wolves SHOT 11 3's and made 1! My goat of this game isn't Jimmy even though I hated the last shot. It's not Jones even though he was abused by Dinwiddie. Taj was close given how poorly he played, but I gotta hand that to Bjelica. He had 1 foul. That was his only stat. He looked like someone who hasn't played basketball ever. He's the guy you pick to play hoops on the playground because he's tall only to find out he sucks. His minutes could have gone to anyone, MGH, Bazz, Brown, me, and it would have been PT better utilized. He can't be out there until he remembers why he's still in the league.
Another thing I hated was how we rendered Towns useless in the 4th quarter. It has to be mandatory to at least give Towns a touch every time down. We just don't seek him enough late in games and that's gonna haunt us later.
Last thing, look at Brooklyn's stat sheet. They did everything in addition to scoring. Our stat sheet for the most part was empty compared to theirs. Any time they had a fast break opportunity they took it. Any time we had one we slowed everything down. Good teams (which we haven't seen much of so far) have a blueprint detailed enough to stop us at will. The scary thing is that we have had freakish luck playing teams missing important players and we haven't capitalized the way we should have.

The players gave effort tonight. It was just one of those games where things didn't go our way. Shots didn't fall and the other team got the brakes and hit shots when they needed to and we did not.
The bench did not contribute much. Belly go invisible mode in his 13 minutes going for 0 across the board including 0 shot attempts except for committing1 foul.

Haven't read the thread yet, but what a stupid play at the end of the game. You MUST go quick in that situation to give yourself a 2nd chance with an offensive rebound or the ability to commit a foul to get another possession. Taking a 25% shot at the buzzer is just ludicrous. God Damn, coaching 101.

We made 1 3-pointer??? And we only shot 11??? What the hell man? Who cares if we missed the last shot? It's amazing we were even around at the end.

Should have been an easy win. Too many jump shots and not enough easy baskets. I don't think I've ever said it before, but PUSH the ball! Also, I hate watching Jamal Crawford play. I actually don't care when he misses. Making his shots just reinforces the stupid play and player. This loss really bothers me tonight.

Jimmy butler is the main guy. But I would like to see wiggins get the last shot in some nights. Wig has hit some big shots and game winners for us the last couple of years. Would like to see him get an opportunity or two down the road.

Agreed. Wiggins is a streaky player with mediocre dribbling who can somehow get any shot he wants when the game in a one possession situation. I like him with that shot at the end of games. But no way Thibs gives it to him intentionally, or any of his teammates for that matter. This is Jimmys team now.

Yuck. One of those games. They happen. Quick belated summary (only saw second half):
- As noted... dumb last play. The iso set-up is on Thibs... waiting too long is on Butler. Down 1, you MUST attack immediately in case you missed. Dumb.
- 10 assists. TOTAL. 10! Nobody wants to watch that style of basketball. It's simply not sustainable against good teams.
- Taj looked bad. Great season thus far. He's destroying his career high in minutes... hopefully this is an anomaly. We'll see if he gets gassed. Because...
- Bejilca sucks balls since his return. And when you think about the relatively short timeframe of good basketball vs. the much larger sample size of crappy to mediocre to average basketball, there's no guarantee he's gonna get back to his super hot shooting he started the season with... or even that this team can count on him. Virtually EVERY team has a Bjelica type. He's shown nothing more than those guys. Nearly dime a dozen.
- Another team with key players out. Lin + LaVert + Russell might be the three best guards on the Nets. None played.
- 14 > 1.
- 30 > 11.
After checking on what Toronto is doing this season, I was going to create a three point shooting thread yesterday but decided it wasn't the right time. It is now. Tomorrow.

I agree, cool. It shouldn't have come down to that last shot, but it was a terrible use of the final 9.2 seconds. I'd also say there were too many possessions where Tyus was on the floor but Butler ran the offense. I think that's a poor use of the relative talents of they guys we have on the floor.

Three thoughts.
1. Agree on that last play. Tough mistakes. Gotta learn from those.
2. We really lost this game before that last play though. There's no reason the Nets should have ever been ahead in this game. We're just way more talented. We played bad in general and they played pretty well, which happens some nights, but that was a win waiting to come our way.
3. Give credit to Spencer freaking Dinwiddie. That dude was great all game long and hit back-to-back superstar shots down the stretch.
