So why didn't Sam demand this effort from wiggy and do you guys think thibs will demand more?
Dumb question I know, but we need wiggy on the court regardless

In fact, I remember Milt Newton's radio interview last year when he hinted at Wiggins' motor issues. Milt gave an account of an incident in practice where Flip became extremely frustrated by Wiggins lack of effort.
I acknowledge it could be a style issue and not a motor issue, but I don't think so. I think next season is pivotal for Wiggins in that regard. Thibs won't settle for less than all-out high intensity effort every minute on both ends. Whether Wiggins has KG chirping in his ear or not, he'll have high expectations placed on him by the coaching staff for hustle, defense and rebounding and not just scoring. I think Wiggins is ready to make the jump as evidenced by his decision to skip international play this summer. He seems serious about taking it to the next level. Imagine Wiggins with the motor of Gorgui Dieng. Pretty fricking exciting!
The more I learn about both Wiggins and Thibs the more I think Thins is going to be good with Wiggins. Thibs is intense but he isn't a yeller. He is insanely detailed and has a reason for what he is doing. Wiggins is quietly intense and is cerebral. You can see him calculating on the court. Wiggins does t seem to care about much of the other stuff he more cares about basketball. That's kinda what Thibs is too. I'm not saying it's all going to be rainbows and ponies between Thibs and Wiggins but from the info I have gleaned the last few months from various sources I'm feeling optimistic.
I don't think Wiggins has to play like a junkyard dog either but he does need to have more consistent effort even if sometimes it may not matter if nothing else just as a leader that's what you have to do. I'm ok if he saves himself at times. Let's all remember this is a process and he is 21 and 2 years into the league. I'm not suggesting Wiggins is going to be the GOAT like Jordam but MJ didn't have it all figured out 3 years into the league either and he was insanely talented. Again I'm not saying we shouldn't deconstruct what we have seen from Wiggins but I also think we need to have a bit of patience too. I think at times we can be too hard on him but that's also because we have high expectations which could be met. I think in short we could enjoy the ride of his development a little more.
Re: Wiggins upside
Monster - Great analysis of how Thibs may be a great fit for Wiggins. Cerebral and intense, but not constantly yelling. That seems like a good fit for Wiggins - a coach who can relate to Wiggins and motivate him.

"There's this general sense - and I've seen you even phrase it this way - that this is the year you guys really are dangerous. Why do you feel that way?
We've done a lot of good things this year. And we beat a lot of good teams - we can beat any team out there on a given day. But we're getting stronger. We're getting older. We're getting more experienced. And we're building chemistry. We're just getting better every game. We have a lot of things to accomplish this coming year. We're all looking forward to it, and our expectations are getting higher. We want more. We're young, and hungry, and we want to see the playoffs.
What do you think is going to be the biggest advantage to having Coach Thibs running the show?
He's going to bring out the best in me. He's a hard-nosed coach. He's tough. And that's what everybody on this team needs. We need our coach to take us out of our comfort zone.
I know you'll be paying attention to the Olympics. Who do you think is going to win the gold?
I want to see Spain get it just because I have a teammate on there. It'd be awesome to see Spain win it.
How do you manage the balance of making sure you get enough rest and keep your mind clear, but still keep yourself in the shape you want to be in to take that next step heading into the season?
You have to be focused. You have to have a plan, and a schedule. I have great people around me, who make sure I get the best out of every situation. I'm working, but I get rest when I have to. If I need to take a day off, I do. If I have a really good workout the next day, it's okay.
Just how good can Karl-Anthony Towns be? It seems like that dude has limitless potential.
He definitely does. He's a great player. And he makes everybody better just playing with him and around him. I'm so excited to see how good he can be and to see what he can do.

Excerpt from recent Wiggins interview:
Q: What do you think is going to be the biggest advantage to having Coach Thibs running the show? Andrew Wiggins: "He's going to bring out the best in me. He's a hard-nosed coach. He's tough. And that's what everybody on this team needs. We need our coach to take us out of our comfort zone."
As I suggested, I think we're going to see Wiggins take a huge leap this coming season.
