Heh, well, these guys get paid no matter what, so there's that.

Cam,
I like the idea of trading Bennett for Jose Calderon.
But is there really that much difference in my proposal of Bennett for Vasquez which you shot down pretty quick? Sure Vasquez is younger and slightly cheaper, but Bennett is from Toronto and going home might be just what he needs to live up to his potential.

Other than Vasquez being younger, cheaper and better, he's on a playoff team who needs him dearly. Calderon, however, is on a rebuilding, big market team who needs to dump their mid-level contracts in hope of signing a max player or two. Not to mention Calderon's spot as a backup PG has more than likely been filled already by Galloway/Larkin.
We're thinking similarly in terms of what we want for the Wolves backup PG spot, but you have to take into account the situations that the trade partner is in. Toronto has
zero need to deal Vasquez, especially for an unproven (bust) player like Bennett, regardless of his Canadian connection. New York has
several reasons why dealing Calderon makes sense, and they'll probably be terrible next season as well. They could decide to actually give Bennett playing time.

Either trade sounds pretty miraculous to me even Calderon. I've always liked him and I know he is signed for 2 more years but 7 million for a PGS that can shot and run a team and has a connection to your starting PG? Yeah too go to be true I'd love to see it happen.

Like was said this is going to be a competion and as I said in what I would do as GM I would be ready to cut Payne and Bennett if someone else was better so someone will go home or to another team. So what if they are getting paid and not playing for us I want guys that can play I know we all do especially Q. Sadly for some of us Ed Davis is some sort of dream FA this year. Wow we suck lol If we do sign NBA and Pek is looking decently healthy at all I am not sure Ed Davis comes here. It depends on what other offers he get and the opportunity for playing time.

Sorry Lloyd, that one sailed by me. I saw the movie once, not the play. And I probably have re-watched Baldwin's opening monologue on youtube once or twice....But I've never been one for remembering famous movie quotes.
You might want to try something from Caddyshack next time!

I can handle the 20 minute limit per night, but not being available for half the season is a terrible disruption to our flow. I wish he would retire and take whatever role they've surely already discussed for him.
We don't play half the season on back to backs. There's also talks of dropping the number of back to backs down to 16 next year so it would be even less. He'll play 50-60 games which is more than your half the season comment and if they reduce back to backs further he might be able to play more than that.
Do you honestly think the only games he's going to miss are the 2nd night of back to backs? That's a stretch..

If they are really wanting to get rid of Calderon and his salary they may end up having to pay up to do so. The question is how bad do they want to unload him and how much interest there is out there for him. My initially thought is that it Bennett for Calderon would require a little more from the Knicks. A 1 year flyer on a young guy with potential while unloading backup PG Calderon and his 7 mill per.
Also, it sounds like they have interest in Monroe, Love and Rondo. Hopefully they like Monroe a lot. Just sucks the draft is before FA.
