Summer League
Re: Summer League
Im really liking what is being said about lavine. I know he hasnt play in an actual game yet but the kid looks like he can be very good for us down the road.
From what we know of him, he has elite speed and can jump out of the gym. Can handle tha ball, run the offense a bit and can shoot. At 6'6, he has very good size to play the sg although he needs to bulk up and get stronger. He has confidence in himself as well and works hard. The key here is if he can put it all together and have the basketball iq and what it takes in between the ears to reach his potential.
Looking at his skills, If he shows that he has high bball iq then i can definitely see him as a much more athletic manu ginobili. I look forward to see him at summer league along with dieng, bazz, robinson and shved.

Also cool to see from the rookies, LaVine and Robinson attended a Minnesota Lynx game tonight. Nice to see them out and about, hopefully enjoying the great state of Minnesota and its people.

Muhammad, LaVine and Fesenko are putting on a show tonight during the Wolves inner-squad scrimmage. Apparently LaVine and Muhammad traded big time dunks over a period. LaVine also racking up assists. Wish I was there to see it. If anybody can find highlights tomorrow...

I'm reading the same reports from an eyewitness on rubechat. Says Muhammad looks great slimmed down, has really improved his handles, and is the best player on the court (as he should be). LaVine has had some jaw dropping dunks, but apparently has suffered from the same issue he had at UCLA...standing around on offense. Flip and company are going to have to coach him up to his athletic potential, because the potential is there.

There is a reason he dropped to 40. If somehow Flip and his staff can coax a decent jumper out of him, than I think that will go a long ways toward developing his overall game. But it's just tough to see that happening after two years of mediocrity. The non-scoring/shooting stats like rebounds, steals and assists translate the most reliably from college to the NBA. He did nothing at Michigan to distinguish himself in these areas.
If we need a guy that has a great team-first mindset, high b-ball IQ, and be a good role player for spot minutes, we should have just kept Robbie Hummel around.
Robinson has a pretty strong case in both arguments. He passes the eye test as an intelligent, athletic, physical wing player. Very capable of fulfilling whatever role is asked of him, shown by his play at power forward last year at Michigan and ability to play second (or third) fiddle on a very successful team for both years he attended.
What did he produce? In two seasons, he averaged 12/5/1/1 with an efficient .525 mark from the field. Keep in mind his freshman year, he played with Burke, Hardaway, McGary and Stauskas. Only so many stats to go around. Then in his sophomore year, he plays the 4 for the majority of the season, which is clearly not what he's best suited for. Excuses or not, the guy helped his team have success.
Win Shares (2012, 2013):
- Burke: 8.7, --
- Hardaway: 4.7, --
- Robinson: 5.8, 4.2
- Stauskas: 4.7, 6.2
- LeVert: 0.5, 4.4

Please don't advocate for Hummel over Robinson. The two aren't even comparable in that Hummel is absolutely useless when his jumper's off whereas Robinson can impact the game everywhere besides facilitating. Not to mention he's 20-years old and Hummel's already 25. C'mon, Q. You're better than that.
I like his efficiency, which should be expected from someone who is an elite athlete at the college level with a low usage rate. What I don't like is the lack of a 3-point shot and very mediocre non-scoring stats. I get that he played second fiddle to others when it comes to shots, but the 5/1/1 part of his line isn't very encouraging.

I'm sure our man Lip is there. Hopefully we'll get the full rundown from him.
Fun to hear about the high-flying plays, but I doubt there was much defense being played out there.

Re: Summer League
I need to dial my pre-season enthusiasm back a bit. I just looked at Zgoda's tweet with tonight's scoring totals, and I started to get excited about Fesenko's 22 points.
And then I remembered...Fesenko really sucks.

That comment in the report about about Fesenko being more cuddly Darko or whatever is pretty much spot on. He is physically talented but can't put it together. I always liked him probably because I saw him play in SL and some random Jazz game but yeah. Lol

I disagree with the observation that Zach was standing around on offense. He played point most of the night and did a really nice job making quick decisions and facilitating the offense. I also thought he moved well off the ball. He was clearly the most talented player on the court. He did an excellent job running the offense and, when you consider the defensive side of the ball, Zach was also the best player (not just best talent) on the floor. I loved the way Shabazz played tonight. He hasn't slimmed down a lot, but he seemed much quicker and more explosive. And he seems to have improved his handle. I have high hopes for him this upcoming season, but I think Zach was the best player on the court.
Fesenko was the leading scorer tonight, but he had no one with any size to guard him. He played hard, but otherwise wasn't that impressive.
In addition to Zach and Shbazz, Glen was also very impressive. He doesn't stand out, but he was very. Effective and efficient. He plays within himself, has a beautiful looking shooting stroke and showed better handle than I expected.
