The separation between him and the avg guard is smaller then the gap between Gobert and the avg center. Gobert is a better player then Mitchell and Gobert is more of a rarity then Mitchell. Lots of guys can put the ball in the hoop. Not many can change an entire defense from terrible to top ten just by being on the court.

Many casual fans look at offense only or mostly and see the flashiness. Mitchell is more flash, Gobert effects winning more. I love that we got Gobert. The best trade in Wolves history.

I couldn't agree more, WF. Mitchell is admittedly an exciting player who can get you 30+ on any given night, but his positive 2-way impact on a game lags far behind Gobert. I'm as puzzled as most here by the national media's reaction to the two Utah deals. I will say though that while the initial response to the Gobert deal was mixed to negative, it seems to me that the national media has migrated to a much more positive take over the summer.

It is fascinating how panned the Gobert trade was for the Wolves and celebrated the Mitchell trade was for Cleveland. I recall the Wolves were heavily criticized for the amount of picks they gave up while the Cavs amount was barely mentioned. If the Cavs hadn't already traded their 2023 pick to the Pacers it would have been included and the pick package would be been identical. Instead the Cavs had to throw in an extra pick swap and leave the 2029 pick unprotected.

Now understandably Gobert is a solid 4 years older than Mitchell and that has to be factored in and while there are probably some fair questions about the fit for Gobert there are some equally fair fit questions for the Cavs too. Their backcourt defense has the potential to get shredded. If it works out and Mitchell wants to stay in Cleveland, Mobely won't be eligible for the designated rookie max extension. It remains to be seen if that will become a problem.

I think this is all mostly a product of Gobert being vastly underrated. I'm looking forward to the Wolves going all out this year and changing some minds.

One of the reasons why the Mitchell trade is being heralded as good for Cleveland is because he fits a need for them. They really needed another lead guard type to take some of the pressure off Garland. And I agree! Yet the Gobert fit with Minnesota's roster is probably just as stellar. So not only is Gobert being underrated as an impact player, but his fit on the Wolves roster seems to be underplayed by the national media/pundits as well. At least Kendrick Perkins gets it! I think some others have come around a bit too, but yeah, pretty amazing at how visceral the reactions were to each trade.

I think the biggest reason is now the media can shit on the Knicks for over a year, or call them geniuses, while simultaneously push out articles for LeBron returning to Cleveland, retiring there, after Cleveland gets pushed to draft Jr.
