Saric has had his ups and downs -- most players do -- but his numbers say that he's a fine young player. Oh, and he's already shown thus far in his career that he can be a key contributor -- third option offensively -- on a winning team. You can't say that about much of this roster.
For me, the displeasure on this board with what we've got out of Saric this year is just so misguided.
Saric has been mostly "meh" to me. Thus far, he seems to make more of an impact in theory (spacing) than actual on-court production. Fortunately, the Wolves have another year to see what he can do as a more focal part of the team next to Towns.
If this is what we can expect, I wouldn't be excited about paying him big bucks in the extension. Next year will be more telling.
By the way, he'll be 25 next season. In today's NBA... that doesn't always warrant extra patience for being a "young" player.

I'm with that completely. He's not a surefire all star, but he's a young competent starter, with some upside still due to his intelligence on the court. Plus he's potentially taking care of a position of need for us in the long term if we can sign him.

To me there are 2 angles of Saric being a valueable player for the Wolves.
1. He becomes a really valuable player. Maybe he does that becoming a pretty efficeint 18-9 guy (or maybe even better that does lots of winning plays basically a high level starter.
2. He is a solid player that we also sign for a very reasonable deal so even if he isn't a really good player he is still a value guy.
Ideally you get him back for a reasonable salary and he becomes a good player having more value than his actual contract. He doesn't have to be an all-star or whatever to do that. Also its worth remembering this was his 3rd year in the league. He isn't a finished product.

We can be disappointed in the season. We can be frustrated with Wiggins. We can be pessimistic about his supporting cast moving forward... but Towns should be giving everybody a glimmer of hope right now. He's been fantastic.
2. It's only the 5th time in 18 seasons that the Wolves have won 30 games without Kevin Garnett on the roster.
Kat has been unbelievably special. He's going to make all NBA again. Kind of wish we didn't have to pay him more now. But damn he deserves it
If more money makes it more likely he stays... good.
The franchise has a lot more problems than an extra $8M cap hold.
Yeah, we can't constantly complain about Wiggins and his underperforming, only to wish that KAT wouldn't live up to his potential to save poor ol Taylor a few million
Lol. Well said! I was just looking again at KAT's stat line from last night. 41 points, 14 rebounds, 2 steals and 0 turnovers. And he did that against one of the better center in the League - a big, defensive-oriented center. I also noticed he shot 55.6 % from the field while going 8-10 from the free throw line and 3-6 (60%) from behind the arc. And of course, he's been putting up phenomenal numbers all season since Butler left.
KAT gives us a young 23-year old superstar to build around. Hopefully, we won't squander this opportunity the way we screwed up the opportunity we had with KG - the Joe Smith deal, giving up on Billups in favor of an injury-prone veteran, drafting Ebi instead of Josh Howard. The list goes on. Sadly, I see this organization giving up on Okogie the way we gave up on Billups. And I see more dumb draft decisions in our future. Right now, we don't even know who will be making our draft and other personnel decisions after this season.
This has been a weird season for like 143.467 reasons. Still Towns seems to have taken legit steps on both sides of the ball and some other little things to vault himself into what we have hoped for him being a top 10 or even better player. It can't be the only positive that comes out of this season but its HUGE development. At this point he is earning that extra money. There are plenty of ways to squander his time here or get around that extra money he is getting paid.
