She learned nothing at all from Leydon...just more slick NY blah-blah-blah. Thibs was a little more forthcoming, but most of his talk was designed to lower expectations (big surprise)...he reminded everyone several times that this club is coming off a 29-win season (if I'd been there, I would have made my argument about them finishing the season as a .500 team...Thibs wouldn't have liked that).
Mostly platitudes from Thibs too (unusual for Dunkers where guests are usually a little more open), but with respect to individual players, he had the most to say about Tyus (my gal is a Duke grad, so she was happy about this). He raved about his off-season...transforming his body, and dominating at Summer League. Called him a "proven winner". I ate this up, of course, because I'm hoping to see Tyus and Dunn backing up Ricky and Zach, respectively.
Not much else to report here...it's Theydon, after all.
Thanks for the report.
LST I have to say that Layden is spelled with an A.
What exactly do you mean by when you call Layden talking NY slick?

Thx for the correction on Layden's name, monster...I think I used to misspell his dad's name too back in the day.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but Layden also comes across to me as a guy who grew up on the streets of Brooklyn. I think he carries himself well and seems to be quite intelligent, but he's also very good at using a lot of words to say nothing at all.

Thanks for clarifying. I think I get what you mean but Layden doesn't seem too say a ton of words or come off sounding very slick. I think that's partly why I asked where you are coming from with that term. =)
This ought to make Q smile. There is an insider article out that forecasts the win totals for each team. I'd post the full article but it just isn't cooperating. But here is the blurb on the Wolves.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Proj. wins: 37.1
Last season: 29-53
Player spotlight: Karl-Anthony Towns
John Calipari accelerated Towns' development during his one season at Kentucky by forcing him inside. Towns retains the soft touch from the perimeter that made him such a promising prep prospect. He shot a below-average 34.1 percent from 3-point range, but his 50.6 percent accuracy on 2-pointers beyond 16 feet ranked second among players with at least 100 attempts, per Basketball-Reference.com. Thanks to Calipari's forcing him inside, Towns is also dangerous in the post using hooks with either hand and a fadeaway jump shot. His 231 points on post-ups ranked in the league's top 20, per Synergy Sports tracking on NBA.com/Stats. And when Towns draws fouls, he's an excellent free throw shooter for a big man (81.1 percent), boosting his strong .590 true shooting percentage.
They have us 11th in the West behind the likes of Sacramento. Maybe Q is writing for ESPN now?

I can see what LST means by slick. I liked the Thibs signing. He's a proven winner as a head coach and before that as an assistant. He's widely regarded as an elite head coach among all his peers. Layden on the other hand was a miserable failure as the Knicks' head of basketball operations, the only time he's ever been an NBA team's top exec. He was part of a Spurs organization that won big before he got there and will win big now that he's gone.

ESPN also has the Vikings at #5 in their power rankings. They actually dropped them a spot after beating the Giants to go 4-0. So I guess it doesn't surprise me that they have a more pessimistic take (relative to others) on a Minnesota team.
I'm probably not quite this conservative, as it does feel like we should at least win 10 more games than we did last season. The 50+ win or bust crowd I think are stretching it.

So are you saying Layden got the job because he is a great self marketer?
Edit: Wait I get it now he got the job despite not being a self marketer. Yep pretty slick. It couldn't have been merit. I mean the guy spent literally decades working for top NBA organizations. He failed with the Knicks. Should that shock anyone? The farther we get from when The hoodie coached and failed with the Browns the more you think...maybe it wasn't just him learning from the experience as much as not being a part of the Browns franchise. Lol jk...sorta. :)
