Once again I think the Brewer short arms thing is so overblown. Is it a factor? I guess, but I think the lack of weight is more significant, and you know what I bet he weights more than 185 now there is no way he weighs what he did coming out of college. Even if he is 200lbs which I am not suggesting he is or isn't but that he weighs more than 185 we all know any legit sized wing will outweigh him. There is no reason to make the point bigger than what it is though. As someone else mentioned Brewer is quicker than alot of the guys that are bigger than him so he can use that to his advantage. Also look up Bruce Bowen's measurables and tell me he was significantly larger than Brewer. Oh wait he isn't. He is listed at 6'7 200 and he doesn't look to have any crazy wingspan either.

One consideration about him guarding Lebron is Lebron does his biggest damage as a guy with the ball in his hand creating for himself and others. If he does that it plays into Brewer's best strength which is playing a guy dribbling the ball where he can try and take the ball or swipe it away. I remember years ago Brewer doing just fine on Melo as well. Brewer tend to be pesky and piss people off and get in their head a little.

I'll add my thoughts on Ak here too. This is my speculation

I think Flip told AK he thinks he is a good player, but wasn't willing to commit to him long-term becasue of injuries age etc. He said "Ak you can opt in at 10 million this year, but its unlikely at this point we will keep you past this year." If you are Flip and you don't think you want to keep a guy past this year you aren't really hoping the guy opts in and plays out this year for 10 million. Ak probably wasn't thrilled by this and figured he woudl get some good offers out on the market anyway and so he decided to opt out knowing he had 2 good options left either return to the Wolves or sign with the Nets. I don't think he expected to have to settle for so little obviously but he is on a contender so he can't really complain too much.

Personally I would have taken the gamble on AK for the 3 year 21 million contract alot of us have discussed for months. I am a big AK fan though. I can see the reasoning to let him go because as good as he is you can't depend on him being able to play. Thats tough.

I happen to agree with Flip that giving AK a 3 year deal for 21 mill would have been a bad call. I've shared my ideas numerous times about AK missing 20 games each year and this statistical dropoff from the first half of the season to the second half and through the playoffs.

The Wolves have a similar and better team than last year (with the primary exception being AK). The Wolves have the same coach. AK taking the pay-cut and blaming Flip for that decision just seems fishy.

Sounds like you are splitting hairs on why he left Mark. It was ultimately up to Flip to make an offer, and it doesn't sound like that happened.

San Antonio didn't think the 3 years was a bad deal. They were trying to get AK in a S&T, and the talk was for 3yr/24 mil. I am not a huge fan of AK's, but at 3/21 I would have re-signed him rather than having Brewer at 3/15.

I find it funny that Adelman soured on AK for taking off games. Adelman insisted on playing AK way too many minutes. How did he think he would react?

SJM, if you are going to quote 75% of my post, please be curious enough to quote 100% of my post. Because my response to your post is in my original post. (The 1 paragraph that you cut.)

Markkbu - I never meant to suggest that AK left just because Flip became GM as if he left simply because he didn't like Flip personally. Obviously, AK's departure was related to Flip, but it was a function of Flip's view of AK compared to Kahn's view and Flip's related unwillingness to commit to AK as our starting SF. Again, there were good reasons for Flip's view of AK effective decision to let him walk -- (1) AK's lack of certain intangibles like toughness and bonding with his teammates, and (2) his age and injury propensity.

Here is the paragraph I cut from your post -

To blame Flip for AK leaving this year just seems off considering the circumstances. I have never heard of a player opting out of a $10 million one year contract to sign a $3 million one year contract. I can honestly say that I don't think that has ever happened before. We are talking about a 70% pay cut.

How does that contain any response to something I had stated in this thread?
