I've called out the Opponent eFG% stat a few times as the stat that most explains our futility as a team. I think it was Benz who mentioned in the broadcast that we're on track for allowing the worst defensive eFG% in modern NBA history. I knew we were on track for a franchise-worst mark, but I didn't realize just how bad it is.
Do you realize how bad of a defense you need to have to be the worst in modern history!? We're talking about the equivalent of over 1,000 seasons.
Wow, that is absolutely pathetic, and as SJM mentions, it starts with Flip.

What the hell happened after that nice start? How is it that a PG shooting around 35% and under 30% from 3, lights us up every time we play him? Is Flip watching Utah's game film to see how other teams are stopping him?
This team has no discipline, and that starts with coaching. Whether you are playing BB, racing snowmobiles, or water skiing, doing the work early is what makes you successful. With a few exceptions, this team doesn't do any of this. They are just too lazy to put forth the required effort until it's too late.
Yeah, what Trey Burke has done against us in two games is the most damning indictment of our team defense. Unless our PG miraculously gets through or under a screen, we are absolutely dead on high pick and rolls. It inevitably leads to a layup, open pull-up jumper, or corner 3. And of course, they almost always go in. Arggghhh!

I would love to be able to sit in on a couple of practices just to see how much they work on defense. This team would have a hard time beating some of the better college teams right now.

At least we can take some hope away with the continual improvement by Wiggins. His arsenal seems to be growing every game. The defenders no longer know what he is going to do. He has a nice midrange jumper, an up and under, a floater, and still looks solid from 3.

Yup, seems like the only thing we can hang our hat on for now. He's had something like 6 games in a row where he's shot the ball 44% or higher and they are almost all shots he has to manufacture himself due to a lack of playmakers on our squad. He has definitely turned his efficiency around.
Unfortunately, Shabazz is finding himself being guarded by bigger players and the post ups are not coming as easily as before. It's like whack-a-mole. We have one guy start to emerge while another takes a step back....

I could see Kentucky beating us if college rules were used.

Seemed like tonight we didn't get enough Bazz post ups, imo. The reason why is unknown to me. Bazz usually either gets an efficient look, gets fouled or passes out. For some reason, he wasn't showcased enough ln the block. We can't get away from that. Our offense struggles even more when Bazz doesn't get going.

I see Flip is really cracking down on the team after another lackluster performance last night by giving them an optional Sunday practice day. I would expect a coach to use every possible opportunity available to him, but I'm guessing Flip must have more pressing matters.

He is too busy taking all those trade calls for a 12 mil a year chronically-injured center signed for 4 more.

Actually, this could be a smart move. It forces everybody to show their hand. Are they serious about playing well or not? I'd be VERY interested to know who showed up (and for how long) and who didn't. If I were the coach, I can tell you that would definitely help me revise the minutes I'm giving guys.
