Ha, thanks Q. But this is my fault...I used bad judgment in bringing it up in the first place. Sunday night got the best of me and I acted inappropriately.
Do you need to be banned?!? :D

For a number of reasons, probably. But not before the playoffs, please!

I'm not the one groveling for dirt on a former professional athlete! But if that's a sign of maturity, I guess I've been doing it all wrong!

Really? Groveling for dirt? Ridiculous. As a lifetime Wolves fan KG is obviously someone I have always held in high regard. When someone says that he is an awful human being I would assume it's pretty natural to ask what they know that you don't. Groveling. You are ridiculous.

"KG is at a different level though. The stuff we know about is bad enough...getting a woman who was married to someone else pregnant, his ugly divorce from Brandi, and whatever happened a year ago that caused the police to have to make a domestic call at 2am to his girlfriends house......I also know there are things about KG that go far beyond cheating on his wife. He's a thug."

That's what FNG said. What more do you need to know from him to help form an impression of KG, in addition to the abundance of other information you have at your fingertips to do so? You and Cool were basically asking him to share the ugly details of the transgressions he is aware of and break the trust of the source that told him these things. What purpose does this serve?

And I should probably say these are alleged transgressions, as FNG is trusting a source that told him these things and we are in turn trusting FNG. But that doesn't automatically make them true.

Sorry FNG, I know you regret even bringing this up! I've made my point!

I've shared my take on athletes many times. I try to keep my fandom to what happens on the court/field because that's all we really know about them. And we've all experienced "good guys" turning bad. It's easy enough to compartmentalize if we want to... and easy to dwell on certain things if we want to.

And, this transcends athletes (as FNG noted). At this point, we see it almost weekly in politics or entertainment or whatever. Power/fame corrupts. Or, maybe a certain type of person is more likely to chase power and fame. Obviously, we can't believe everything we read. Heck, we have a two-time president who is one of the most influential men in modern times who's constantly facing "he's a bad guy" claims. Is all of it true? Very highly doubtful. At the same time, we know some of it is true... e.g., sleeping with a porn star and later paying her shortly after his wife gave birth to one of his kids. Tens of millions not only root for him, they may even praise him.

For some, allegations of KG being a bad guy will be enough to question any celebration of him. Fair enough. But it's all up to the individual person to make that decision... and be honest to themselves about who they hold to higher standards than others. (Heck, some of the most public stone throwers are pretty damn shady themselves.)

TLDR: I'm sure I have very little in common with Garnett and would find it quite the challenge to be his friend in real life. I'm sure he's even worse than I can imagine. But he was also a fun player who played the role of athlete who seems to appreciate his fans. So, I'll keep my basketball memories of him without thinking twice about it.

I completely agree, Abe, that everyone is welcome to their own opinion about whether they want to celebrate KG or not...and their opinion is likely more valid than mine, since I am in the minority here. Just look at how joyful the crowd looked as he walked onto the court Sunday. But to me it's all about separating the man from the deeds. I find Harvey Weinstein to be one of the most despicable people to ever walk the earth, but I'll continue to enjoy his movies now and then. And I still enjoy several Michael Jackson songs. Similarly, I will always look favorably on what KG brought to us Timberwolves fans...he's still the most impactful T-Wolf of all time. But if there is a ceremony celebrating Weinstein, Jackson, or Garnett, you won't find me in attendance.

Yeah. I hear you about overt celebrations and stuff like that.

If we boycotted stuff performed/created by people with questionable character... we'd be missing out on a lot. (And probably enjoying lesser things by people who might be awful as well but just weren't caught.)

So I'm just gonna stick my head in this pile of sand over here...
